Chapter 7

Eyes In The Dark

After the grand tour, we settled down and had Luigi cook us up a little dinner. Fettucini Alfredo. Not bad for a pro. Danny seemed to be getting a little sleepy, so I took her up to her room. I said goodnight, and she closed the door.

When I lay in my bed listening to the sounds of the pouring rain and the banging thunder, I began to think of my future relationship with Danny.

About two in the morning, I heard my door creep open, and clutched my hand on my Beretta. I was ready for anything.

The lights flicked on and I swung my body around with my gun ready. When I took a second to look at the door, I saw Danny paralyzed in shock. I put my gun down and ran toward her.

Michael: God, I'm so sorry, Danny. I didn't mean to, but when I hear someone coming into my room in the middle of the night and they don't knock, it's an immediate reaction.

Danielle: Don't worry about it. It was my fault, I should've knocked. Sorry.

Michael: That's okay. What brings you in here, anyway?

Danielle: I was having nightmares about the death of my parents. I don't like sleeping alone on a stormy night in a house that I'm not too familiar with.

Michael: I don't like to sleep by myself during a storm either. It's really creepy.

Danielle: You? No way!

Michael: Yeah, it's true. Come over here and sit down. Tell me about your parents.

We exchanged horrible stories about the deaths of our families. We stayed up the rest of the night, talking about the rest of our lives, and we soon realized that we had many things in common.

I was becoming attracted to her. I think that she's the only person next to Loren who truly understands and can relate to the death of my family.

She fell asleep on my bed, knowing that she wouldn't be harmed, now that she was around someone who cared.
