I tried to get as far away as possible from them, so I spent most of my time going out with Danny. She enjoyed going to the theatre and the opera. We also sat down on the beach and had lunch together, talking about anything that came to mind.
Although I was with Danny for most of the day, I still had work to do. Angelo heard of a drug shipment coming in at an abandoned warehouse. He said that we had nothing to worry about, and that we didn't have to bring any powerful weapons, because he heard all they'd have would be knives.
Angelo said we wouldn't be needing him either, so he decided to stay home and work on a new computer program. He'd be home alone, because it was a Saturday, and Saturdays were the girls' nights on the town. There's some crazy ritual that they have on Saturdays. They spend a whole shitload of money, just to relax.
The shipment would be coming in at nine tonight. I was relieved that it wouldn't be a very stressful operation, because Danny tired me out last night.
It was ten minutes before dinner, and then we'd be off to work. I went upstairs to talk to Angelo about tonight. When I knocked on the door, he seemed very surprised and preoccupied. He let me into his room, but it looked like things were packed up.
Michael: What's going on?
Angelo: Oh, I have to move some stuff for my new computer area.
Michael: Oh, okay. You coming down for dinner?
Angelo: I have to stay and clean up a little bit more.
Michael: Fine, but don't starve yourself.
I went downstairs and sat at the dinner table. I had a big plate of spaghetti with the rest of my friends. Luigi had done another excellent job with the dinner. We said goodbye to the girls, as they went off to go shopping, and then we started to plan our attack.
Everything was ready, so we geared up and headed out for the car. When we got there, we saw the truck pull up, but no one was to be found.
Loren: This is kinda weird. Do you think it might be a trap?
Antonio: What kind of trap could a bunch of bangers possibly come up with?
Michael: We have to be ready for anything, so keep your eyes peeled. There's nothing different about this situation from the others. Just play it by the books.
Luigi: Hey guys, look down there. Four guys are coming out of the back of the truck.
We all got in our positions and surrounded them, then knocked them out. We looked inside the back of the truck, but it was empty.
Michael: What the hell's going on?
On a rafter above us was a skinhead with a machine gun. He shouted down at us to say that it was payback time. He started firing, and we all jumped behind cardboard boxes to be safe from the flying bullets.
All of a sudden, about eleven more skinheads showed up with bigger and better guns. We were trapped, and the only thing that we could do was try to find a way out.
Loren: Angelo set us up, that back-stabbing bastard! When I get my hands on him...
Michael: If you get your hands on him. We still gotta get outta here.
Antonio: I've already killed three of 'em, but more just keep coming in.
Loren: Out there, by the big black boxes! There's a door - we can get out that way.
Luigi went first, and made it safely to the car. Then Antonio went, with the same results. Loren took a break for it when more guys came out, and I told him I'd cover him. The guys were all screaming at me to get out of there, so I dashed for the door.
When I was halfway there, the shooting stopped, and I heard Angelo's voice yelling down at me.
Angelo: Hey, Mike! Now it's my turn to have a shot at being the big boss!
Michael: Burn in hell! There's only one boss around here, and that's me!
Angelo: Not for long, fucker!
He pulled out his gun, and like a sniper, aimed for my head. He missed that, but still managed to shoot me in the stomach. I laid there on the ground taking my last breaths of air, and heard Angelo and his men leave.
Loren, Antonio, and Luigi ran over and knelt beside me. They said a quick prayer and rushed me to the hospital.
