15-4, 13-15, 15-11, 15-13
(10/05/00 at Jacksonville, IL)

October 5th - The Lady Panther volleyball team got back on the winning track Thursday when they traveled to Jacksonville, Illinois to take on MacMurray College. Greenville took the match in four sets by scores of 15-4, 13-15, 15-11, and 15-13.

G.C. jumped out early in the match to a 4-0 lead, only to see MacMurray bounce back to cut the lead to 5-4. After the short run by the hosts, Greenville left little doubt as they reeled off the final 10 points in the set to roll to the 15-4 win. G.C. was led by a great performance from freshman middle hitter Megan Vandiver who tallied 3 kills on just 4 attempts and added a block solo and a block assist.

In game two, it looked like Greenville would continue to roll as they opened up a 6-1 lead. After MacMurray cut the lead to 6-4, Greenville pushed the lead to 9-4 and eventually 11-7. MacMurray refused to give Greenville the game as they toughened up their serving pressuring the Panthers into several serve receive errors and eventually completed the unlikely comeback to steal the game 13-15. MacMurray's offense struggled throughout the game, but Greenville had nine serve receive errors setting up many of MacMurray's scoring opportunities.

G.C. came out sluggish in game three falling behind 0-3, but eventually extended the lead to 10-4 and later 13-5. Once again, Greenville seemed to hit the skids as the game neared the end as MacMurray put together a furious run scoring 5 straight points to cut the lead down to 14-11. Greenville would hold on for the 15-11 win thanks to some late offense from outside hitter Sarah Swanson who tallied kills on her final 3 attempts. Kristi Harms had a very strong set with 5 kills on 9 attempts.

Once again, Greenville came out of the gates slowly in game four falling behind 0-3 and 4-6. Jamie Hart sparked a crucial run as she served out seven consecutive points to push Greenville's lead to 11-6. After MacMurray cut the lead to 11-9, G.C. pushed it up to 14-9. Another wild run from the hosts shifted the pressure back to Greenville as the lead was down to 14-13. A big sideout kill from Lindsay Hairrell set up the final point as Meredith McDaniels served her fourth ace of the match to end the game 15-13.

"We had several girls who don't usually see a lot of game time really step up big for us tonight," remarked Coach Rick McPeak. "Val Watson (8K-3E-15TA) played a very good match in the middle and Meredith McDaniels had a very good serving night with 4 aces." Kristi Harms had her best offensive night of the year finishing with 10 kills and also adding 22 digs on the defensive side. Megan Vandiver had her second consecutive strong performance in the middle as she controlled the net all night and finished with 8 kills (.350) and 4 total blocks.

"Even though it may not show up every night in the stats, Heather Caddell played another excellent match for us tonight," added McPeak. "You can't tell by looking at numbers, but she handled some periods of shaky passing very well and was the glue that held us together during our down times. She is a great floor leader and has a way of settling us down when we get out of sync."

Greenville will have a week off before hosting Lindenwood in a scrimmage on Thursday, October 12th. They will then face Blackburn on Saturday the 14th for an afternoon Homecoming match.
