Greenville def. MacMurray (3-1)
15-17, 15-6, 15-1, 15-4
(11/1/00 at Greenville)

November 1st - Wednesday night was Senior Night for the Lady Panthers and the seniors finished their home volleyball careers with a 4-set victory over MacMurray 15-17, 15-6, 15-1, 15-4. Middle hitter Julia Wheeler and defensive specialist Rashell Temples were honored before their final home match which ended happily for Greenville.

Greenville looked a little sluggish to start the first set falling behind 0-3, but they were able to tie the game at 7 apiece and then extended out to a seemingly insurmountable lead of 13-7. However, shaky serve receiving and inconsistent hitting began to take its toll on the Lady Panthers as MacMurray crept back into the game at 14-11. More struggles from Greenville helped MacMurray tie the score at 14 as they would take the set 15-17 from Greenville.

After another early deficit in the second set (2-5), Greenville left no doubt the rest of the night as they would score 43 of the final 49 points in the match and took the final three sets by scores of 15-6, 15-1, and 15-4. "Once our serve receive stabilized, we played really well and got a big win on Senior Night. It's great for Julia and Rashell to conclude their careers at Greenville with a win especially the way we played those final three sets," remarked Coach Rick McPeak.

Although it was Senior Night at G.C., the fans got to see what looks like a bright future for Greenville as freshman Michea McKay led all players with 17 kills and hit .297 on the night. Fellow freshman middle hitter Megan Vandiver had one of her best offensive nights of the season by hitting .555 with 5 kills on only 9 attempts. "Megan was really effective in the middle for us tonight," added McPeak. "She kept the ball in play and was very active at the net all match."

Kristi Harms led Greenville defensively with 14 digs and senior Rashell Temples had 12 digs. "It wasn't our sharpest match of the season, but we still came away with the victory." added McPeak. Despite the lopsided scores, Greenville finished the night with 8 serving errors and 11 serve receive errors. Some excellent long rally play and agressive offense helped account for many of the mistakes however. Greenville will look to conclude their season on a high note with a match at Harris Stowe on Thursday night as they will look to win three straight matches for the first time this season.
