Greenville at Rose Hulman Tournament (1-3)
(9/15/00 and 9/16/00 at Terre Haute, IN)

September 15th & 16th - The Lady Panthers finished up a grueling two-day tournament at Rose Hulman Institute of Technology this weekend with a match record of 1-3. The tournament format called for a pair of matches on Friday night and two more early Saturday morning.

The first match for Greenville was versus Illinois College. Despite falling behind early 10-1, Greenville fought back and was able to finish the game down 10-15. The momentum did not carry over in games two and three, as Illinois College never let G.C. get into rhythm as they took the next two games 15-6 and 15-10. Although Greenville didn't take a game in the match, the offense was solid led by middle hitter Julia Wheeler. Wheeler had 14 kills in the match and hit .545 while fellow middle hitter Megan Vandiver hit .455 with 5 kills. Michea McKay had 11 kills as well and setter Heather Caddell finished the match with 38 assists.
 Loss vs. Illinois College 10-15, 6-15, 10-15

After sitting for over an hour between matches, the Lady Panthers didn't start their second match until about 9:30 on Friday night. The long layoff wasn't apparent until later in the match as Greenville took game one 15-11. Robert Morris came back by taking the second and third games by scores of 15-9 and 15-9 and then took game four 15-7. Michea McKay and Julia Wheeler had enormous games once again as McKay finished with a career-high 21 kills and Wheeler had 14 kills on just 26 attempts (.500). As a team the Lady Panthers had 57 kills and hit .285, but came out on the short end of a hard-fought match. Fatigue definitely played a factor for the Lady Panthers as it was their seventh game on the night and half of the players are freshmen. "Most of these girls are accustomed to playing no more than three games per match in high school," remarked Coach Rick McPeak. "And tonight they played seven."
 Loss vs. Robert Morris 15-11, 9-15, 9-15, 7-15

September 16th - Saturday morning began another long day of volleyball with a match against host school Rose Hulman. Rose Hulman played very aggressive volleyball early as they rolled to a 15-7 win in game one. Greenville came out in game two much stronger as they tied the game at 6-6 halfway through the set. However, Rose Hulman was able to string together several runs and took off the final nine points in the game to pull away for the 15-6 win. Game three was more of the same as Rose Hulman's defense was too much for Greenville as they took the last game 15-9. G.C. was never able to get momentum in the match with the tough defense of Rose Hulman digging and blocking consistently throughout. The Panthers were only able to total 27 kills in the match as a team, but they would have one match left in the tournament to gain a victory.

 Loss vs. Rose Hulman 7-15, 6-15, 9-15

The final match pitted Greenville against Brescia University. Greenville rolled right through Brescia winning 15-11, 15-7, and 15-6 to finish the weekend on a high note. For the first time all weekend, the Lady Panthers put everything together for an entire match and never gave Brescia a chance to make a run. The win was the first three-game victory of the season for Greenville. Michea McKay had 18 more kills in the win in which G.C. hit .356 as a team.
