GD2049 Turn 1

Turn 1 When I first received the report for this game, I was very glad to see that I had been assigned to play China. I wanted a small nation like China, Austria, or Italy. The larger nations such as England, France, or Germany require good communications to play successfully, but in a gunboat game where there is NO DIPLOMACY whatsoever, it’s a little hard to do that! As the game would go, it became obvious to see what forms communications would take in this game. This was the first time I had played China in the GD2 series and I knew that there were a LOT of sp’s to be had but how to get them and which ones was I willing to risk loosing to the other nations. I decided that I would try to take all nations into alliance but the UNITED STATES. I wanted to send a clear message to all players where my intentions were and to see if I could get anyone to join me in moving in that direction. For my first move I decided to try to capture 86, 89, 104, 87, and 88. My hope was to block out the USA from making any gains in Asia. In retrospect I think I would have skipped the move on 88 and went for the bounce with USA on 87 and have moved 97 to 95. I wanted to make major gains just incase the world had randomly decided that China was the first one to go down in flames. My moves for the turn:

DA 1-10
MO 106 86 MO 101 104
MO 100 88 SA 102 104
MO 97 87 MO 99 98
