April 15, 2003
The April meeting of the BGG was brought to order by president Randy Paylor at 7:45 P.M. Eighteen members were present.
Our usual meeting format was reversed this month with John Cole conducting a presentation of Sloan's Valley Cave, followed by Grotto business.
John's informative and entertaining presentation was enjoyed by all in attendance. Randy has not received any corespondence yet on the BGG's application to the Sara Corrie Fund for new surveying equipment. He expects to hear something either after the BOG meeting or convention. The Vertical Workshop has been postponed. Randy attempted to contact the owners of the property in the Jessamine Creek gorge but they have been out of town. Randy is awaiting a return call from the owners. If something comes up, he'll post a message to the list server. Nothing new to report on Daniel Boone Cave. Preliminary plans are in the works to resume the survey of Blowing Cave. The water levels should soon be low enough to allow access to the cave. The aim is to schedule a survey crew of 9 for the weekend after Speleofest (May 31 & June 1). A motion was passed to have the grotto secretary maintain the current membership list. Treasurer John Cole reported that Hilary has been reimbursed for all expeses for the Grotto newsletter and there are currently no outstanding bills. GSP Work Weekend - May 3-4. Preparation and installation of concrete floor at the shelter house. GSP Open House is May 18. John Cole provided information on OVR. OVR's Annual Meeting will be held Memorial Weekend at Speleofest. OVR's conservation project for 2003 is in Indiana and involves a pit clean-up. Vertical skills are not required. A question was fielded about new membership cards. Randy will check into it and possibly have them ready for the next meeting. With no other topics to address, the meeting was adjourned at 9:03 P.M.
