Here is a picture of one of the booms I cut out of foam on my home-made rotisserie. 11/02
The Rutan Voyager comes to life! Here is the home-made "rotisserie" with templates made out of plywood. I am cutting the boom pieces.
Here are both booms cut out of foam with a center crutch made out of lite-ply 11/02
Here is the foam wing laid out on my driveway, all 24 feet of it. Looks skinny! Thanks to Mark Drela for airfoil recommendations
This  is a sample cross section of a boom. My first time foam cutting! Not too good.
Hi, my name is Glenn Dunlap. I belong to a Radio Control flying club called GCRCC (Greater Cincinnati Radio Control Flying Club gcrcc.net). We build and fly radio control aircraft. Our club has been asked to perform a show at the Hamilton, Ohio airport this summer (August 9-10 2003)  . In response to the club's challenge to build significant aircraft in aviation history for the show I have chosen to build a 22% scale (24 ft. wingspan) model of the Rutan Voyager. This original plane was the only one to fly  around the world non-stop without refueling. This incredible feat took just over 9 days in Dec. 1986. The whole Voyager story is an incredible and intruiging one. It is one of the last great atmospheric records to be achieved.
This web-page is designed to chronicle my adventure in designing, and building a miniature version of this airplane. The airplane will be built almost entirely out of foam, carbon fiber, fiberglass and will be electric powered. Since there are no plans, kits and very little in scale drawings it has been a challenging venture  thus far.  A 110 ft. wingspan scaled down on an 8.5 x 11 paper doesn't yield much detail!! But true to it's original creators I have met and so far overcome many obstacles (many more to go) and I have many people to thank along the way. First of which is my WIFE and family for enduring another of my wacky projects..
If there are any aircraft engineers out there who could lend their knowledge to this project please feel free to advise
I will be updating the site periodically to show latest developments
