2 days in Georgioupolis

I flew from Gatwick to Heraklion. My sister met me at the airport and we took a taxi to the bus station in Heraklion. We took a bus to Georgioupolis where she was staying. Georgioupolis is on the north coast and there is a main road that goes along the north coast (E75).

The taxi fare is normally 5 or 6 Euro but we paid 10 (5 Euro each?). Always agree the fare before the journey.

We went to her apartment first and then we looked for somewhere for me to stay. She was staying at the Irini apartments over the river from the main part of town. The first place we came to was Anna's apartments. Anna is an older Greek lady and speaks hardly any English. We asked the price of rooms and we agreed that I should stay there for 3 days. We had intended to look at more places and compare prices before making a decision about where to stay, but I found out later that not only is Anna's cheap but a good place to stay.

Rooms at Anna's are 15 Euro per night. It is possible to find rooms at other places for the same price in May, but none of them have self-catering facilities. Anna's is just over the river, on the road to Exopolis. My room was on the top floor and had good views from the balcony of the mountains and the sea.

We had a pleasant couple of days in Georgioupolis and then I started my journey walking to the south coast.
