my favourite films; in more detail

Don Juan (1926)
I don't remember much about this one, except that it was very exotic. best bit review

Metropolis (1927)
Very early science fiction film. best bit review

Forbidden Daughters (1927)
Hollywood sexploitation film. Very exotic. Parts of it can be seen in the film 'Sex And Buttered Popcorn' (1991). best bit

Shanghai Gesture, The (1941)
Unusual film about a woman who runs a gambling den in Shanghai. When I first saw it I think it was called 'Madame Gin Sling' or something. She meets a girl who turns out to be her daughter. Quite exotic. best bit review

Casablanca (1942)
Well known love film set in Morocco during World War II. best bit review

Forbidden Planet (1956)
Early science fiction film. Quite influential. The plot is said to be based on Shakespeare's 'The Tempest'. best bit review

Singende, klingende Bäumchen, Das (1957
Made in East Germany, this fairy story was shown on British TV (as The Singing, Ringing Tree) and frightened a generation of children. best bit

Time Machine, The (1960)
Early science fiction film, based on the book by HGWells. Man invents time machine, travels into the future, falls in love with girl, and battles with sub-humans. best bit review

Black Noon (1971) (TV)
One of the scariest horror movies I have ever seen. Has a plot a bit like The Wicker Man, but set in the Wild West. A preacher and his wife are lost in the desert and rescued by villagers. They ask him to stay on to be their preacher but they have a sinister plan for him.

I recently found out two things about this film. First, it preceded The Wicker Man and perhaps influenced it. Secondly, the preacher was played by Roy Thinnes who is the main character in The Invaders. best bit review

Broadway Danny Rose (1984)
This film and the next three are, like Casablanca, about love. This is my favourite Woody Allen film, and is about a loser and a low-life woman who develop feelings for each other. best bit review

Paris, Texas (1984)
Man found wandering in desert, reunited with son. They set off to find boy's mother. He finds her in a sleazy establishment. best bit review

Kiss of the Spider Woman (1985)
Two men share a prison cell in South America. They are different characters. One, an activist; the other an effeminate homosexual. The gay guy likes to tell the other stories of an exotic singer. They start to like each other. best bit review

Mona Lisa (1986)
Middle-aged man comes out of prison. Asks his old mate for a job. Only job going is as a driver for prostitute. After a bad start, they begin to like each other. Then she asks him for a big favour. best bit review

The Cloud Door
Beautiful Indian ladies, the most beautiful being the star, Anu Arya Aggarwal. Beautiful Indian architecture and countryside.
best bit review

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996)
I have only seen a clip from this film, where Salma Hayek dances in an extremely erotic way. Now that I have seen the film I don't think it is very good. best bit review

Cruel Intentions (1999)
I have only seen a clip from this film, where Selma Blair looks cute as a teenager exploring her emerging sexuality, which includes girls kissing. Now that I have seen this film I don't think much of this film either. best bit review
