Colour the Dog Green - with Ged Maybury

ACRREDITED BY EDUCATION QUEENSLAND FOR GRADES 4 - 7

Colour The Dog Green is the result of 15 years of  visiting schools as a writer and storyteller.  During hundreds of visits I have discovered (and  continue to discover) what children want to know about being a writer, how books are created, and what makes a good story even better.

WHAT'S IN THE SHOW?
During the show I tell two stories, both based on childhood experiences, and do a quick blackboard exercise demonstrating how adjectives and adverbs work to define a character or scene.  I show how the choice of a few key words can dramatically alter the entire story from beginning to end.

INTERACTIVITY
I ask the children questions about their writing and aspirations, they contribute to the blackboard story (and we even debate whether it is a story), and after the second story (interactive, of course!) I schedule a 15 minute question time.

QUESTION TIME
By the end of my formal presentation (and often well before that!) students will have questions about writing and books.  During this stage I pass around my books.  This gives students tangible contact with the process of book-creation and usually triggers off a new round of thoughtful questions.

LEARNING OUTCOMES
The program is designed to stimulate creativity, improve word and sentence-building skills, and give some insight into the life and work of a real writer.

FEES:  A 55 minute session for the recommended number (60 students or two classes combined) is $180 or $3 a child (to be collected by the school).  Payment by cheque at the end of the visit.

I can present up to 4 sessions per day, over several days if necessary, and offer discounts for bulk bookings.  I am adaptable and negotiable, even about the focus of the show.   Contact me at any time to discuss your needs.

I also do STORYTELLING,  WORKSHOPS  &  'NEW GAMES'
