Jelly Fish: Characters

Tsubasa Sendou

Tormented by the loss of his mother, Tsubasa is a sad young boy with short, yellow hair. He has huge, clear eyes full of sadness, and he is sweet and soft, but possesses a harsh attitude as well. He is often given to tears and pain, but his smile is beautiful. He has a strange connection to the sea, which allows him to see many floating fishes at times. He comes to live with his Father and half brother, Tokimaru, after his mother mysteriously disappears while he is still very young. Tsubasa believes that she was taken by the sea and sets out to find her, travelling to a different, alternative world with the only other person he cares for, aside from his mother, his half brother.

Tokimaru Sendou

He has wild, black hair and dresses in outlandish, punk clothes. He is Tsubasa's older half brother, with whom he shares a special relationship, even if he never lets it show. He is loud, reckless, funny, and impatient, yet he possesses an honest soul. He follows Tsubasa in his journey, even if he doesn't understand the world that he finds himself in and even Tsubasa's reasons for going. Once there, he is subject to several strange occurrences, including the pirates, who take him up as part of their crew.

Captain Shroud

Pirate captain. Charming and charismatic, he commands the respect and loyalty of his crew and even that of Tokimaru, who denies it to himself. He is a mysterious man, with hidden motives. He gives Tokimaru a cutlass and sets off various, complex events that separate the brothers and send them down different paths. He makes Tokimaru part of his crew, wishing to teach him the pirate ways.

Acashia

Young and beautiful, she is Tsubasa's real mother. She has wild, long, yellow hair and huge clear eyes that bare both seriousness and anger. She was captured by Daimadooshi, who keeps her in a huge glass tank, with her hand and feet tied, against her will. She is kept away from everyone, tortured inside the glass, sometimes even forgetting who she is. Her only connection to the outside world is her servant, Frau, whom she sends to protect Tsubasa.

Ledania

He is a young, clear haired, cross dressing homosexual who is part of Captain Shroud's pirate crew. He wears makeup and an Arabic, belly dancer dress complete with fake breasts. He allows Tsubasa to be captured by rogues and is, in a way, Shroud's second hand, whom he seems to have affections for.

He is a trickster and wishes to keep Tokimaru as his pet, showing his affection freely to the highly uncomfortable young man.

Frau

He is Acashia's young servant. He is actually a small flying fish, but he can also transform into a young boy, with pretty, big eyes and short hair who dresses in a sort of Greek-like garb. As a fish, he is able to live outside of water, and serves as Acashia's window to Tsubasa and Tokimaru. Even though his intentions are good, he shows a bit of cowardice and is, sadly, often no help at all.

Boleas

One of the more feisty members of Shroud's crew. Like most of them, he admires Shroud, and would walk through flames for the man. At first, he is jealous of Tokimaru, and challenges him to a sword fight across the masts of the pirate ship. Tokimaru beats him, but also saves him from falling off. Boleas and Tokimaru become very close friends, although they fight and scrape, much like Tamahome and Tasuki in Fushigi Yuugi, just as readily.

Freddy

A member of Shroud's crew, Freddy is in charge of loading and unloading the ship as well as of enlisting and accepting new crew members. Ledania brings Tokimaru to him and he boards the perplexed, unwilling young man. Of all the crew, Freddy doesn't seem to hold a grudge of jealousy against Tokimaru. When Boleas challenges Tokimaru to their sword fight, he calls out for them to stop, looking on in confusion as they have their fight. Dedicated and serious, Freddy most likely serves as a father figure to many members of Shroud's crew.

Jock

The youngest member of Shroud's crew. He serves as a type of lackey to the captain, who leaves him in charge of both Tokimaru's safety and acquisition of more suitable, pirate clothes. Jock promptly delivers Tokimaru into the hands of the crew, who beat him up. Like most of the other crew members, Jock is jealous of anyone who wins the Captain's favour too quickly.

Daimadooshi

High priest of the Kingdom of Kipros and servant of King Falken, this character still remains mostly a mystery. He keeps Acashia a prisoner. His true motives are mysterious, but he delights in tormenting her and gloating to her, perhaps waiting for her to break down and either cooperate in his plans or reveal information he wants. He knows that Tsubasa is attempting to rescue his mother, and is ready for him. The one thing this character does not have going for him is his incredible resemblance to Rauresu from Seimaden. Not too original, love.
