Historical Mayhem
Ludwig II Shrine

Ludwig II was indeed as eccentric as rumours paint him out to be, and he was indeed treated as mad. Some people, whom I disfavour, still call him names and insults, while others treat him as a fairy prince that lived his dreams. Certainly the people of Bavaria treat him with respect and honour his memory, and have the nicest celebration in the day of his birthday. To them, he is a wonder and a tragedy. His dreams of beauty still live through his splendid castles, immersed in the beauty of Bavaria, which are a visited today by tourists from all over the world.

In reality, Ludwig II was a tragedy. For one so young to be treated like he was, is definitely a sad case, as was his brother's life. Fated to a family of lunacy, both brothers sunk into the sickness, and were sent away into confinement. The psychologist in me can only determine that it was these acts, rather, that drove both into the pits of their insane deaths. Taken to castle Berk by Holstein, Ludwig felt betrayed and as if everyone wanted him dead. He got separated from his beloved Hornig, and from his cousin and friends. Even though he was not a violent creature, he was treated as one; treated like an asylum patient, and at time inhumanly.

Driven by despair and a lack of will to live, he took Dr. Muller, the doctor responsible for him being sent to Castle Berk, and killed him, then drowned himself in a pond. This is all historical rumours, but evidence is clearly pointing to this tragic end. Whether it was due to his insanity, or to an anger he could no longer hide, no one will ever know.

Most of You's manga has incredible detail, from the historical things to the plots and characters, even if she travels the roads of mysteries and rumours often. Still, most of the manga is dedicated to reproducing König Ludwig II's life and turmoil wonderfully. The manga is still in the works, and I am unsure if You will include all of the real history, but here I include some minor differences, she has not included yet:
* Princess Sophie, shown in the manga to be a lovely woman with virtue, was not as sweet. Part of her life, she dealt with other lovers, accused Ludwig of being unfaithful, and left him with anger, instead of sweet tears. Although she did not live to hate Ludwig II forever, she did not like the fact that he had played with her. She became a sort of fallen woman, rumoured to have had lovers outside her marriage. Still, history does not treat her as a monster, please reader, do not believe that. She died in a fire, saving a baby from a house in flames.

* Maximilian von Holstein was indeed as crafty and sneaky, but I believe he was not as funny. He was in league with Luitpold and von Bismarck to remove Ludwig from his throne, due to the fact that he was weak, and mad. Holstein was even more wicked, pulling all kinds of strings to get Ludwig to admit his insanity. He took the king to Castle Berk, following the advice of Doctor Muller, who was part of their plan. Eventually, this drove Ludwig totally mad, or totally angry, causing his death. Holstein wanted desperately to find the king insane, or perhaps drive him so himself, and stopped at no cause.

* Even though Hornig's key did exist, and it was him who could read the diaries of Ludwig II, there is also a rumour Princess Elizabeth could also read some of them, and had the key in her possession at some time. Hornig did in fact exist, and was Ludwig's dearest lover, but both were separated once Doctor Muller takes the king to Castle Berk. Hornig loved the king dearly, and suffered much when he died.
