The main character, also known as Lemura Salamander. He has a recurring dream in which he remembers the day his childhood home burned down. He possesses strong, telekinetic powers. This, and an as yet unrevealed secret, makes him the target of the Rossen Kreuz Secret Society. When his childhood friends, Inaba and Yuika, are killed in an accident, he uses his powers to bring them back to life. He bears the symbol of the goddess Isis --also the symbol for the transgendered-- on his palm. A kind hearted young man, he cares deeply for Inaba and Yuika, as well as for his older brother, Sui. Sweet, gentle, but somewhat naive; he even cares for his enemies. |
Kira's childhood friend and constant companion. He is a star player in the high school basketball team. This, and his good looks, make him very popular among the girls, but he shows no interest in them. His psychic powers are awakened after he dies --and is later brought back to life-- in a motorcycle accident while trying to rescue Kira from a kidnaper. His powers manifest themselves whenever Inaba is angered. He can cause glass to implode as well as slowing down the momentum of moving objects, such as bullets. Because of his fragile temper, he has a hard time admitting to both Kira and himself that he is actually in love with Kira. |
Kira's best friend and next door neighbour. Her mother fears Kira for reasons she can't name, but Yuika never abandons her friendship with him. Not as dedicated a student as Inaba, she is constantly asking to borrow his notebooks as well as teasing him. She believes Inaba's feelings for Kira go deeper than friendship. Her psychic powers awaken after the motorcycle accident that temporarily kills both Inaba and her. She develops the ability of seeing the future and soon becomes popular among the school girls for her accurate readings of the Tarot. One vision, though, plagues her. In it she sees Kira being raped by Sui. In addition to her visions and predictions, Yuika can also "sense" whenever Kira is in danger. |
The top assassin of the Rossen Kreuz Secret Society, Mr. Mitsuki's adopted son, and Kira's older brother. When he was younger, the house where he lived with Kira burned down. Following this tragedy, he was separated from Kira and presumably taken by the Rossen Kreuz. He shares a deep, emotional relationship with Kira and, like him, bears a symbol on his palm, a blue circle --the symbol of the sun-- that glows when in close contact with Kira's own symbol. Sui has a pretty big opinion of himself and his assassin's skills. He is a cold, emotionally detached killer. His psychic powers, in Volume 1, included the ability to create great amounts of heat, which could burn through steel and concrete. In Volume 2, though, his psychic powers are linked to the ancient god Zeus. |

The leader of the Rossen Kreuz Secret Society's headquarters in Japan. A cruel, morally twisted man, he whips and rapes Sui in order to gain sexual pleasure. Although his real motives are as yet unknown, he sends Sui to kill Kira, aware that it will cause both brothers pain. He is killed in Volume 2, his death causing Sui to experience recurring spasms. |
German pianist; possibly half Japanese. He is enlisted by the Rossen Kreuz and sent to infiltrate Kira's school as a student. He discovers that Kira's brother is the man who killed Erika, a young girl who sang with him. He is obsessed with finding and killing Sui as revenge for her death. Carrying his painful memories and desire for revenge, he lives a wasted life. His first real friend is Kira, who befriends him even though Maya tries to both strangle and drown him in his shower. Touched by Kira's kindness, he allows him to escape. He is later killed by Sui during a failed attempt at avenging Erika. |
Shinpu --which simply means "priest" in Japanese-- makes his first appearance in Volume 2. He is a seemingly mild mannered priest who enjoys listening to German songs on his phonograph. Shinpu is, in fact, an assassin himself. He trained the young Sui to shoot and defend himself in order to avenge Mr. Mitsuki's rape of the young boy. He kills Mr. Mitsuki later on, and is even trying to kill Sui. He knows a great deal about the Salamander, the type of psychics Sui and Kira are. He bears a bit of resemblance to Rurouni Kenshin's Enishi, doesn't he? |
Osa first appears in Volume 2. He is one of the self-proclaimed guardians of the island of Atasooru, which bears more than a passing resemblance to the South American jungles. The guardians of Atasooru -- who look for all the world like a mix of Aztec, Maya, and Inca indians -- have been waiting for the day when the two moons appear in the sky, hoping for |
