CHARACTER PROFILES

BARCRAB
>>AGE: 74 | SEX: MALE | RACE: ENIGMAN<<

Based off a co-worker from my job back home, he and I would have arguments on a regular basis. They were always friendly jousts, and they never went past that. The reason: the dude could bench press a Buick.
I chose to use him as a basis for the muscle in this story, simply because…well, who else could believably cleave a zombie in two?

An Enigman worker in the Black Spade Construction Company, he loves his job. When the job's too hard or heavy, he's the cool crustacean to call. On a low note, Barcrab can't modulate the volume of his voice.

BLACKHEART
>>AGE: 40 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

"What is a hero without a villain?"

The driving force of this entire production in particular is the character Blackheart. She is an amalgam of many different people I have had the pleasure of meeting. Ultimately, this villainess was not the product of sheer imagination; a fair share of the misandrist propaganda that comes out of her mouth has been said by actual people. It only took a bit of extrapolation to make this super bad-ass dragon-lady from her sources.

That last sentence is the scariest part of the whole paragraph.

A child prodigy and former hero in the Northern Bandoliers, the woman formerly called Lessorah has joined with the dark spirit forces beyond Cordoba for her own selfish purposes. Armed with control of necromancy and geomancy, Blackheart fronts a construction company and a shipping company out of Karmor's Bend to fund her personal war of revenge.. Guardian of Inia.

CYAN
>>AGE: 38 | SEX: MALE | RACE: HALFLING<<

I made a list of all the people in my high school for the express purpose of using them later in other productions of The Cordoba Chronicles. What I noticed was that many Hispanic people fell under the racial classification of Halfling. These Halflings share only one trait with Tolkien's Hobbits (sometimes called halflings) and the halflings of the Dungeons and Dragons universe: hairy feet.
I decided to make Halflings a force to be reckoned with in Cordoba: denizens of a barbarian kingdom to the north that have since tamed their based instincts to better mesh with their neighbors. They are otherwise peaceful, but wild and heroically brave when the occasion calls for it. Such is my impression of the Hispanic community which was part of my growing up when translated to the fantasy world of Cordoba.
I've based the character of Cyan on a few male Hispanic co-workers at my old job back home, all of whom I hold in high esteem.

An undercover paladin of the Brash Brotherhood, Cyan poses as a simple construction worker to uncover the rumors of zombies threatening Karmor's Bend.

DONOVAN
>>AGE: 32 | SEX: MALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

The base for the character Donovan was a real surprise when I met him for the first time and subsequently began to know him better. The young man was homeless when I met him, but lived a more exciting life than I coould ever hope to lead in this world. While being homeless, he could still hold down a real job, something that still impresses me to this day.
He's a rare one, that: a self-taught speaker of the Norwegian language, great conversationalist, fan of all things Nordic and excellent friend. There aren't enough people like him, so I'd better remember him before it's too late.

Owner of the Egress Bar, the unflappable ice mage called Donovan maintains his territory and his girls while keeping his ice axe handy. Not fond of Blackheart's secret police, he helps Shuya run her resistance cell.

DOYLE(both alive and dead)
>>AGE: 29(when alive) | SEX: MALE | RACE: UNDEAD CONSTRUCT<<

In the instance of Doyle, the character is based on a phenomenon that's sweeping the world: good girls who love bad boys. This character is an expression of the latter member in the partnership, the bad boy.

A fugitive from the law and the Thieves' Guild, Doyle is the embodiment of the ultimate asshole. He was nursed back to health by Mixy and soon married her, as a squeaky-clean front to do bigger heists. He met the business end of Blackheart's magic and was reduced to a skeletized assasin--and one of Blackheart's most powerful tools in her personal war against the world of Mankind. Formerly the father of Inia.

INIA
>>AGE: 20 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

Like most of my characters, she started out as a series of musings based on someone whom I held close to my heart. She became the love interest in The Necromancer's Fury after a dark realization in my life, essentially the light against the encroaching shadows. As such, she holds a great deal of energy--orange and brown in color--that shows itself in her skin and curly hair.
The idea of Inia arose from the looks of biracial persons. I had a great deal of time and experience observing these types of people while on the job and on my personal time. The majority features of bronze skin, tightly wound sun-kissed curls and contrasting green eyes were a real visual draw and I wanted to use her visual representation if inner energy and happiness as a foil to the antagonist's dark and dour behavior.

Carefree and cheerful, she's the shiny penny everyone picks up. In contrast to her guardian Blackheart, Inia makes a point take in the company of many to fill her curiosity about the world she's barely seen. Orphaned daughter of Doyle and Mixy, now the ward of Blackheart.

JOLLUM
>>AGE: 64 | SEX: MALE | RACE: HALFLING<<

At my old job, I met my boss and got along with him quite well. Despite the general weirdness that went on and my short temper with store thieves, he was a solid rock that understood where I was coming from. He was also the only person back home who would hire me, despite my achievements and credentials.
When I found out about his illness, I was sad but I knew that he would find a way to overcome it and soldier on. Such was the inspiration for Jollum. I dedicated The Necromancer's Fury in part to this man, and I hope that he lives to see this published.

Present during the destruction of Sumptor, Jollum is the construction foreman overseeing Black Spade Construction's work on the town hall built for Karmor's Bend. Cantankerous in his words but always gentle in his heart, he treasures the dedicated workers he has.

KITTY
>>AGE: 50 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: ENIGMAN<<

In my times while working in my hometown, I gave up on the world at large and hit the stripjoints. You could find a way to talk to women without public embarassment, and touching and booze was involved…for a price (Isn't it always?) That's where I met the exotic dancer who would become the basis for Kitty.
Long red hair, a British accent and standing six foot even without heels, this woman was a marvel among most women. She was a great conversationalist(part of the job requirement) and played bass in a rock band in her off-hours. I know that the only path is a platonic business relationship, so the best way to show gratitute to the best masseuse ever--aside from tips--is by far the most atypical: turn her into an Enigman.

Hailing from the Enigman dimension and posessed with great skills, Kitty the catwoman joins our heroes in a lesser capacity than her powers allow.

MIXY
>>AGE: 23 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

Mixy is based on the phenomenon that plagues the modern world: good girls who love bad boys. Here we have a prime candidate for the former in the relationship: the good girl.

Growing up with a talent for healing in the slums of Erdushan left Mixy with a sense of duty to heal the world. She set off to do that by joining the Academy and graduated with flying colors alongside her troubled roommate Lessorah. Soon after graduation, she married Doyle and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Inia. Her happiness with Doyle was short-lived, however, as his true nature began to show.
She was forced into his schemes one after the other and finally discarded like trash when he found another woman. Forced to live on the street like a beggar with absolutely no skills, Blackheart hunted her down, "ended her misery" and stole her baby girl. She died defending the only person who mattered to her in the end, with her last words: "Don't…touch her…" Mother to Inia.

MOIRA
>>AGE: 134 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: ELF<<

In the case of Moira, there was no real person that she was based upon. She is a fully original character without anchor in my experiences. She serves as a facilitator for this story, nothing more. In later stories, she may prove to be something…exceptional.

Owner of Moira's Loom House, the Elven seamstress called Moira can be absent-minded at times. Frail and slender, she custom-makes Blackheart's kimonos with a specially printed pattern.

RASHAD
>>AGE: 26 | SEX: MALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

When I thought to make this world of Cordoba, it would be a place just as interesting and immense as any fantasy world. The world would loosely follow the standard fantasy template(containing elves, dragons and magic). The part where I began to break away from the template is with Rashad, the requisite protagonist.
Precedent fantasy books and movies usially cast a White male hero with only a peripheral nod to other races. If not that, then the races are changed into something less. The simple explanation for that is: (a) these stories are fantasies of (b)White male writers.(NOTE: Some fantasy writers may not be White or male, but the influence is there.) As mentioned previously, the influence was also in me…but this was MY fantasy. With that, Rashad was born not out of revenge but out of insubordinance to the fantasy and entertainment establishment.
His adventures are never substandard due to the color of his skin, nor will he ever fall into the ruts set by Jim Crow or modern Black thought. The people he descended from will be present throoughout all the stories I write, never relegated to being "far away", "dead" or turned into Orcs for the purposes or storytelling. Far too long have Black people played into stereotypes or not played at all. This is a situation that I set before Rashad--my other--to change.

May the wind be at his back and the path clear.

A native of Miniga in North Cordoba, Rashad was present to drive the Robot Overlords from Keeper's Mountain. He also fought bravely in the Gegan War alongside his wife, Sa-ren, and made diplomatic contact with the Insectoids of South Cordoba.
His last adventure cost his heart dearly: his wife died in the final leg of the race to secure the Grand Trident. With a heavy heart, our hero Rashad heads south trough the interior of the supercontinent Kinjeti and finds himself a victim of a necromancer's fury…

SHUYA
>>AGE: 28 | SEX: FEMALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

When in high school, I knew many people who would become part of the world of Cordobain one form or another. I compiled a list of who would be what, and I'm trying o stick to it. In some cases, I've had to deviate and place my fellow high school alumni into stories best suited for them. Such was the case for the person on whom Shuya was based.
She was a good friend of mine during those days, and I still consider her a good friend. I have always had a great respect for her intellgence and wisdom, as well as being satisfied with her responses in her position as a class officer. With such responses, how could the resourceful Shuya not be based on her?

A bartender working at the Egress Bar, she leads an underground resistance movement against the Benefactor's zombie troops and out of vengeance for her slain family. Makes a mean Fireflower Special.

WYLE
>>AGE: 28 | SEX: MALE | RACE: HUMAN<<

Also based on a co-worker at my old job, I can't tell you how much trouble i would have been in if I hadn't met this man. he understood that I don't tolerate crap from anyone--co-worker or customer alike. He's had to hold me back more than once from stomping a customer, and that's a sign of a true friend. A hard worker with a heart of gold, the intentions expressed by this act of basing Wyle on my friend barely do justice.

Friends with Shuya for as long as he can remember, Wyle humbly took a job as a carpenter in the Black Spade Construction Company while maintaining his role as second-in-command of the resistance. Handy with a hammer as he is with sage advice, he'll be counted on when the chips are down.
