NAME: Shishio Makoto, ex-Ishin hitokiri. Inheritor of the Hitokiri Battousai title.
MOTTO: "Trust and you will be betrayed. If you are careless, you will die. Kill or be killed. The strong live, the weak must die."
INTRO: Shishio Makoto is introduced in the Kyoto Arc. After Himura Kenshin relinquished the title of the Ishinshishi Hitokiri Battousai, Shishio Makoto took his place. However, Shishio wasn't doing it for the benefit of a new era. He wanted to demonstrate his power to the Ishin, and eventually this led them to execute him, because he was becoming too potentially dangerous. They shot him and set his body on fire. However, Shishio did not die. His whole body was covered in burns, and ten years after the Bakumatsu, he rises to take power in Japan. He has assembled the Juppon-Gatana, his ten swords, and wreaks havoc and violence wherever he goes. After Ookobu is killed, Kenshin decides he must go to Kyoto and confront Shishio. FIGHTING STYLE: You would think that after Shishio's encounters with fire, he would learn a lesson and stay away from it. But no. He loves to tempt fate, therefore, many of his attacks involve fire. His glove is coated in gunpowder to enable his homura daima, a technique where he sets his glove on fire and causes an explosion. He knocks Kenshin unconscious with this particular technique.
WEAPON: Shishio's sword is intricately serrated. He can spark it, and it will burn, fueled by the fat and oil of people he has slain with the sword. This sword, ironically, was made by the same man who made Kenshin's sakabatous (both of them).
