Our king Shibilis was very mighty. He wanted to pass the Great River with his troops. He took out his sward and cut the water into two. But an infidel took his head and it rolled. The head was rolling and breaking a trail for his soldiers.
This was the Roma king Shibilis – he was able to cut the water into two only with his sward.
A Legend about Shibil
Shibil is our king. He was so strong that when he wanted to go with his troops through the water he cut it with his sward. And the troops passed through. When his enemies cut his head, the head was rolling for hundred meters and talking. That much strong he was. Shibil was the Roma king. Other people say that Pharaoh was the Roma king. But I am more inclined to believe it was Shibil.
A Story about the Lost Alphabet
Once we had a king. His name was Pheron.
The Romani man’s best friends were the dog and the horse. When they were passing through the Big River Pheron gave the alphabet of his people to the dog to keep it. But only few people managed to survive the tide. As for the alphabet – the dog ate it.
Why Roma do not have a church
Once upon a time there was a country. Bulgarians and Roma were living in this country. The Bulgarians built a church and the Roma built a church. The Bulgarians made it of gold, the Roma made it of cheese.
Time passed. The Roma were wandering, wandering and got hungry. They did not have anything to eat. And they started to eat the church. The first one took a piece, the second one took another… They left without a church. That’s why we left without a church, that’s why we do not have church now, because we ate it. The Bulgarians have, we do not. We do not have a state as well, we do not have anything.
