Glossary of Trampolining Terms

Add One A game where someone does a move, someone repeats that and adds one, etc.
Adolph A front somersault with 3 1/2 twists
Airplane Another name for 1/2 twist to front drop
Baby Fliffus A move starting on the back, and early half twist and over into back somersault
Back-in Full-out Double somersault with a full twist during the second somersault.
Back pullover Starting from a back drop, a 3/4 back somersault to feet
Ball out A 1 1/4 front somersault starting from a back drop
Ball out barani The same as a ball out, but with a late half twist
Ball out half out Starting from a back drop, 2 1/4 front somersaults with a late 1/2 twist during the second somersault.
Ball out Adolph The same as a ball out, but with 3 1/2 twists
Ball out randy The same as a ball out, but with 2 1/2 twists
Ball out rudy The same as a ball out, but with 1 1/2 twists
Barani A front somersault with 1/2 twist, can be tucked, piked or straight
Back in Half out A double front somersault with a 1/2 twist during the first somersault, making the second one have a back landing.
Barani out another name for a half out, a double front somersault with a 1/2 twist during the second somersault.
Barrel Roll A front drop, full twist horizontly to front drop.
Bounce Roll A move starting on the back, a complete front somersault landing in a back drop, ready to repeat and see how many you can get!
Cast Moving left or right towards the edge of the trampoline during a move
Cat Twist Back drop full twist to back drop
Cody Starting from a front drop, 1 1/4 back somersault
Compulsory The routine that must be performed at a competition.
Corkscrew Back drop, 1 1/2 twist to back drop
Cradle Back drop 1/2 twist to backdrop
Crash Dive 3/4 front somersault, straight
Crash Mat The thickest mats that are usually put on the end decks.
De-synchronisation When doing synchro, the amount the two people are out of sync with each other
Dorso-Ventral Axis The axis travelling through the navel and lower back, the axis on which turntables and side somersaults are performed. There are no marks awarded for this in competitions.
Double Back A double back somersault
Double Bounce As a bounce roll, but with 2 somersaults instead of 1
Double Full A single somersault, with a double twist.
End Deck Also called spotting boards, a large platform secured to the shorter ends of the trampoline to catch you when you go wrong.
Execution Executing a routine, or the style and technique used to complete the routine.
F.I.G Federation Internationale Gymnastique, the governing body for international gymnmastics and trampolining competitions.
Forward turnover 3/4 front somersault, usually a build up for a somersault or crash dive.
Full Full twisting straight back somersault
Full in Back out A double back somersault, with a full twist in the first somersault
Full Twist Jump A 360 degree twist, turning all the way round
Gain moving in the opposite direction of the skill you are performing. opposite of travelling
Half Twist jump Turning to face the other way
Kaboom Somersault from Front or Back, where a double contact is made, this reverses the rotation that was already present.
Kick Out After the somersault has been executed, kicking the legs straight and straightening the body ready for the next skill.
Killer A double back somersault with 4 complete twists.
Kip A technique used to control, (increase or decrease) the rebound of the performer.
Layout A straight body position
Lateral Axis The axis that runs through the hips, somersaults run through this axis.
Lazy Back A 3/4 straight back somersault
Line out After the skill has been executed, placing the arms by the side of the body and preparing for the next skill.
Lost Move Sydrome Where a skill could be performed accurately, but suiddenyl it cannot be performed again due to mental block.
Miller A triple twisting straight back somersault.
Overhead rig Overhead apparatus to support performers learning a new move.
Pike Where the legs are out straight in front of you, and you touch your toes.
Planterflexion the technical term for point your toes
Puck A semi tucked shape allowed in competitions for multiple twisting multiple somersaults.
Quadriffis Any quadruple somersault combined with any number of twists.
Randy A single front somersault with 2 1/2 twists, also called a Rudolph.
Roller Seat drop, full twist (with the body horizontal) to seat drop.
Rudy A single front somersault with 1 1/2 twists, also called a Rudolph.
Straddle With the legs out in front, at least shoulder width apart, and at least a 45 degree angle between the upper and lower body.
Swivel Hips Seat drop half twist to seat drop
Synchronised trampolining two people on seperate trampolines, executing the same routine at the same time.
Tariff The amount of difficulty given for each element of a routine.
Tilt Twist A mechanical phenomenon where rotation is borrowed and turned into twist.
Travel Where a performer moves along the trampoline in the direction of the skill being performed. For eg. moving forward along the trampoline whilst doing a front drop.
Triff Any triple somersault with any component os twist.
Tuck Where the knees are bought into the chest, and you tuck tight in a ball
Turntable A move that starts on the front, and then moves around the dorso ventral axis, landing on the front again.
