I have Microsoft Office 2000 at home...?

Is there a big difference between MS Office 97 and 2000?  There are differences, but they shouldn't be a problem. MS Excel 2000 will be able to read and write MS Excel 97 files with no problem. You will need to be sure that MS Excel 2000 does not convert your class files to MS Excel 2000 file format. This is easy to do, we will discuss this on Wednesday evening.

I am trying to work on the past lesson, and I can't find the right, left or center alignment on any of my tool bars. I went through all of them.  I thought I would also say I have Microsoft Office 2000. Thanks for your help.
I checked this on 2 PCs with Office 2000. On the first one the alignment buttons were just as we've seen them in Excel 97. On the other, both the standard toolbar and the formatting toolbar were docked on the same row (end to end as opposed to being one above the other), in that case the Right Justified alignment button was not displayed. If both your toolbars are on the same row, and/or your screen size or resolution is set different, you may be having the same problem. Try undocking the formatting toolbar, move it to the center (vertically) of your screen, then move it in sections left to right or right to left as appropriate, until you've seen the entire thing. If there is still no sign of the alignment buttons, let me know via the web site.

General Notes ...

Who am I? (I'll comment on this at the first class session)
Attendance (see Class Schedule)
Breaks (usually one in the middle and one at the end; 8:15 & 9:15)
Break Room (follow the halls to the left, it is the last door on the right)
Rest Rooms (both are on the left on the way to the break room, if you need to... just go, please don't ask me)
Quizzes (This class has 7 lessons, each one has a T/F and multiple choice review, none of these impact whether you receive a Certificate or not, but they do show you and I whether you're getting the material or not)
Diskettes (a diskette with class related files comes with the book, you may or may not need a an additional diskette during the course)
Evaluations
You of Me (there may be an evaluation of the course and instructor during the last class session)
Me of You (during the last class session there will be an objective and practical review of the course material, the State of North Carolina requires that you pass it in order to receive a Certificate)
When to ask a question (when it occurs to you, if you're not here at that time, write it down.
Dumb Questions (if you're sure you know the answer...)
Self Introductions (this is where you tell the other folks a little about yourself and what you expect to get from the class)

Class Notes ...

  1. This is a note taking class, from time to time I will give verbal, on the board, or on screen notes that I will expect you to have and be able to refer to during later class sessions.
  2. This class assumes that you are familiar with (have used more than just a few times) PC(s), the Windows OS, Windows software and the use of a mouse.  That you similarly understand and have used the concepts of files, folders/directories, and pathnames.
  3. This class will be much more useful to you if you have access to a PC with Microsoft Excel 97 installed.  If you don't, here are some alternatives:
    1. Most public library systems have PC(s) with MS Excel installed (it may not be "97", but even so, it should be workable.
    2. Many Community Colleges have open computer labs available (check with the receptionist for hours of availability here at RCC, Archdale).
    3. Some public schools have open computer labs, or are available by appointment.
    4. Some employers will make PC(s) available to employees taking a class.
