"William W. Stakely of 7049 Hwy. 68, Madisonville, went to be with the Lord at 9:40 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Sweetwater Hospital. He was 82. He was a life long member of Bethlehem Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, Song Leader, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee and Church Treasurer. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army. Son of the late Alfred and Frances Stakely. Preceded in death by sons - Billy and Harold Stakely, brother - Joe Stakely and infant twin brothers; great-grandson - Sean Rager; step-granddaughter Felicia Moses; granddaughter-in-law - Diane Stakely, former daughter-in-law - Rose Stakely. Survivors: wife of 62 years - Rossie Haun Stakely; daughters and sons-in-law - LaVerta and Wayne Peels, Mary Frances and Leon Crye; sons and daughters-in-law - Jim and Betty Stakely, Winston Stakely, Wesley and Jana Stakely all of Madisonville, Mrs. Billy "Betty" Stakely of Nashville; 17 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters and brothers-in-law - Viola "Beadie" and Arnold Mitchell of Tellico Plains, Sue and Burl Harris, Kate Carter all of Madisonville, Edna and John Wilson of Salem, Oregon, Grace Wilson of Portland, Oregon; brothers and sisters-in-law - Ralph "Chuck" and Viola Stakely, C.A. and Annette Stakely all of Madisonville; special niece Linda Haun Johnson of Englewood; several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral was Monday in Biereley-Hale Chapel with Rev. James Patton, and Rev. Frank Hicks officiating. Interment was 11 a.m. Tuesday in Notchey Creek Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Children’s Hospital, 2018 Clinch Ave., Knoxville, Tenn. 37916.
