Gene Slide Biography

When the history of Belgian BLUES-ROCK is written, the name of the GENE SLIDE BAND will take a prominent place at the top! To this day, listeners here and elsewhere consider American music to the blues, folk, rock, country, rhythm & blues… The GENE SLIDE BAND were rooted in all of them!

At the age of 14 Gene got his first guitar. He could not know that he would encounter lots of music styles before he would end up with Rhythm & Blues. As so many others he started jamming in local bands and in the seventies his very first band was born. Under the influence of Sha na na, Jerry Lee Lewis and other R&R bands, the "Big Blues & Boogie Woogie Band" was setup. For two years the BB & BW Band toured around locally. Then it was waiting for:

1980 KURK & DE AFTREKKERS with a first single "Hypersensuelle – Zwemmen in de voet"
(with a.o. Erik Baranyanka)
1981 RED CADILLAC Second single "Before I beg you to stay – On my radio"
1989 GENE SLIDE BAND Featuring: Gene Slide: Rhythm & Slide guitar + vocals
Paul Lucas: Lead guitar

The music of GENE SLIDE BAND is based largely on old Blues songs (Robert Johnson), mixed with a.o. Dr. Feelgood, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Muddy Waters,… sharp guitar solos like Keith Richards.

From the nineties on, it swings like never before!
