ELM SALOON
Historical
marker application.
The Elm Saloon was established at the corner of East
Virginia Street and the Houston and Texas Central right-of-way in 1883 in a
two-story frame building moved from the east side of the square to make room for
a brick building. By 1892, a stone building had been erected on the site, and it
was given the popular name of “The Rock Saloon.” With the passing of time, it
became known as “The Old Rock Saloon.”....
The Elm Saloon closed when the people of Collin County voted for prohibition on
March 8, 1902; but the stone walls of the “Old Rock Saloon” still stand, totally
enclosed in brick buildings at 346 and 350 East Virginia Street.
