Vagionopalsty is done in a female child born without a vagina .
We create a tube of a sufficient width and depth between the urinary and anal opening.
Case selection :- The patient should be essentially in good health. Free from Urinary and skin infection.
Preoperative:- It essential to discuss with the patient her requirement of width, depth of vagina. Depending on it, one can decide whether to create a pouch and line it with skin graft or muscle .
The operation is done under General or regional anaesthesia.
Postoperative:- There may be discomfort for 2-3 days.It gets better with time and rest.
Recovery:- The new vagina is healed in 10 days. The donor area will also be healed in 10 -15 days.
It will become soft in 3-6 months time. Thereafter physical relations can be established.
Do's and don'ts:- take good rest for first 2 weeks.
Do not rush for physical relationship till it is all healed and softened.
The new vagina will not be sensate to start with and will have no self lubricating mechanism. These factors will have to be kept in mind at the time of physical relationship.
Also it will be skin lined blind end tube. This skin will need cleaning / hygiene like the rest of the body skin.
If there are any other birth abnormalities then they will also require treatment.
