"So are you serious?" Cissie asked again.

"Don't I sound serious?" Cassie half pouted.

"But I could have sworn Kon liked *me*."

Gee, Cassie thought sardonically. How'd you ever get that idea? "He was only all over you," she joked.

"Well don't be bitter. It's not like we ever got together."

    "I know!"

    "And now we know why!"

"So I've seen Bart. I don't think I've seen him this happy. But were you really serious about Kon and Robin?"

    "Like a heart attack!"

"Robin. Wow. When and how did this happen?"

"Well when I asked Kon and he said..."

"It's not something I planned, geesh. It just happened and we both got caught up in it."

"A relationship is a teammate doesn't just happen Kon!"

    "And why not huh?"

"Because," Cassie paused flustered. "It's complicated! I mean it's just that you and he – did he tell you his name?"

    "Just that Al one."

"You and Robin." She shook her head in disbelief. "Wow."

    "Cass!"

    "Sorry I just – wow."

"Do you want to hear this or not?"

"Hear! I'll be quiet. I swear I will. W- just kidding Kon."

"I wasn't doing good after Tana died and –"

    "That's an understatement."

Kon glared but then continued. "It was a couple week after and I was ...

In the training room, Kon was smashing through practice dummies with almost laughable ease. His movements were methodical and detached, unlike his usual carefree personality. But then, nothing had been usual lately. Methodically, he rammed into two targets. He wasn't breathing hard yet. There was really no point to his work out.

Nevertheless, he continued. His emotions numb from days of grief and his thoughts were blank. The workout wasn't helping, just a distraction from thinking. If he stopped, his thoughts would wander. If his thoughts wandered, he'd hear the sickening explosion. And if he heard that, he wouldn't be able to stop thinking about Tana. For the moment he had reprieve.

The moments stretched into minutes with no sign of disruption and continued into hours. He didn't hear the door open and it wasn't until Robin spoke that Kon realized he was no longer alone.

"Cassie said you've been down here all day."

Cassie. Cassie was there, Kon remembered. Cassie would have told Robin. He might have even known before, Kon realized. It wasn't a big secret. Any second, the condolences would start, each a painful reminder in their sympathy. Kon paused and waited for Robin to say his part and leave again.

"Do you want to talk?" Robin asked still in the doorway.

Kon shook his head and awaited a rebuttal. Some argument about what he should do and should be feeling. Robin didn't sigh, Robin didn't protest. Instead, he gave a curt not and turned around. When Robin had taken a step, Kon realized he didn't want to be alone anymore. And found himself asking, "Do you want to spar?"

"No!" Cissie gasped. "I don't believe it! That's when it started?"

"Not exactly. Kon was just emotional and he said Robin's support really helped."

    "I'll bet!"

    "Cissie!" Cass chastised.

"What? Sorry this is all new to me continue. Although if you get explicit or sappy I'm just going to think you're making all this up."

    "I swear I'm not."

"So they were sparring..." Cissie prodded.

"Right They were sparring and everything was going well but Robin told me afterwards that he thought Kon was trying to wear himself out. So they were down there for a good amount of time..."

    .to be continued.
