Jumper

I wish you would step back from that ledge my friend.

Remus pulled his cloak tight around him. The air was crisp, the autumn season starting to make it's prescene known. Despite the slight blam, the day had been free of rain. Still, the cold air was fitting for a the day. A somber event lined with four coffins.

The usually lively Hogwarts campus was in a state of mourning. Classes had been cancelled and the doors flung open for friends and relatives. The Ministry had objected to the assemblage, saying that it would be more fitting if they were honoured in the center. Dumbledore had disagreed. All the fallen had been students, a current one among them.

The service was nice, or at least as well as it could be given the circumstances. Besides the sensation of mourning, the air was full of apprehension and blame. Nearly the entire school had been in attendance, listening enraptured as person after person spoke. Remus had stayed near the back, out of the way, observing.

Close enough to the door, he was able to see his friend when he slipped out. Remus's eyes darted to the center where young Harry was now speaking. The poor boy should have been traumatized, Remus thought, but he was surviving.

Despite his concern for Sirius (which was more than well founded) Remus found his attention riveted as Harry spoke. Harry had wanted to explain... how everything had gone very wrong and even though Remus had been there, hearing it for the first time was truly agonizing.

It was little surprise that Sirius had left, he'd been there as well.
