EXT. DAY. ROOFTOP OF TWELVE STORY APARTMENT BUILDING.
Wide shot on the skyline. The Seattle Space Needle should be visible.
CAPTION: Seattle, Washington. July.
NICK paces near the edge. He is in his late twenties, dresses professionally -- but his clothes look rumpled and worn. He's been wearing them for some time. Wind rustles through his hair.
A door opens behind him. LISA comes up the steps. CLose up on her feet. She wears dirty white sneakers. A WHITE FEATHER falls behind her to the ground. She stops when she sees Nick standing on the edge.
Lisa is in her early twenties with long hair. She wears jeans and a T-shirt both covered by dirt. Nick has yet to notice her. Lisa clears her throat.

There is silence as they study each other. Nick's face is heavy with hurt. Lisa is almost mournful. Nick turns away from her. Lisa waits a moment before she starts down the stairs. Alex looks at the empty doorway then the street down below.

What do you think you're doing?
It's such a nice day. I thought I might fly.
Don't be ridiculous.
You think I can't?
I know you can't.
That's the difference between you and me isn't it?
Look, I thought you were okay with last night. But-- nothing's going to change and if you can't deal with it then you might as well jump.
That's not what you're supposed to say.
Why not? Because it's not what you want to hear? You're your own person Nick. I won't stop you from jumping.
(whispers)
Would you even catch me if I fell? You know I would.
(smiles and steps off the ledge)
