~ bless the children by mina ~ ~aya/ken~
if this isn't the epitome of a warm and fuzzy feeling fic then i don't know what is. i love how mina uses what little canon information we have to create her younger versions of ken and ran. while i wasn't terribly big on the journal as a device, i'll have to admit it worked nicely. i adore aya-chan's role in this story almost as much as i gushed over the horrid, ever present orange sweatshirt, and i couldn't help but saying awwwwwwwww!

~ ~ ~

~ blossom by siberian ~ ~ken/aya-chan, first pov, romance~
so cute! i just adore ran in this story. he's just so brotherly and understanding, and yes, of course protective. it's not so much a story as it is a ficlet, or a moment in time. it's ran watching his sister in love, feeling the odd mix of pride and protectiveness, and it's lovely to read. give it a poke if y'all wanna try het. ^_~

~ catch me by natalie baan ~ ~drama~
this is a great, short missing scene. it's a one shot fic that captures a moment so completely that you can't help but be sucked in. i'll admit i don't understand quite all the references but i do know the oav background, which helps immensely. the author doesn't try to explain away ken's mindset but rather shows it influencing his thoughts and actions and goes to show that sometimes ignorance can be bliss.

~ close your eyes by yasmin m ~ ~aya/ken, abuse, direct address, drama, first pov, series~
this short is high on my list of recs. it's different. a bit dark, and just a bit screwed up. it's not a flowerly aya/ken story and that makes it stand out in my mind. it's yohji's mindset as he sits in ken's hospital room (yes the relationship has taken a violent twist.) the story is written wonderfully, that you can't help but feel yohji's sense of just waiting and being there for a friend. it shows how much ken is willing to give aya, and he recieves worse than nothing, in return.

~ constantly keen by deena ~ ~aya/ken, first pov, humor~
i'm always a sucker for deena fics. this one is new and has great narrative, the beginning is delibrately trying to make you not know what's going on, honestly, how often do your own thoughts make sense. i adore the way she writes stream of conciousness, it's amazing and hard to do and she pulls it off well. not to mention that ken's thoughts are sometimes humorous as well. if you're looking for something different and lighthearted, give this one a try.

~ empty promises by focsfyr ~ ~aya/ken, ken/omc, abuse, angst, drama, series~
a darker take on ken, of his issues and private hell, and because of that, it should probably be considered an au. ken's only escape from the hell that is his life, he finds in dingy rooms letting men have their way with him. the interjection of aya in the story comes quickly and without explanation, but feels like it serves only to give the ending it's blatant angst. even the follow up: redeeming grace doesn't bring any closure, but regardless, they're interesting twists.

~ entity of a lover by avium ~ ~aya/ken, alternating pov, death, drama, first pov, non con~
if you want something long, dark, dynamic and depressing, this is what you want to read. it has some of the most unique takes on the characters and while they may not be what you're used to seeing the author justifies them within the story. it's bastard aya, angry ken, and their impressions of each others there's a ton of detail to be found here which enhances the story to the nth degree. but the first person is severly limiting on interpretation sometimes. all in all, beautifully done.

~ frail (you may as well be me) by scarlet fever ~ ~ken/schuldig, aya/farf, autoeroticism, death, first pov~
i adore this type of ken. confident. he's not sappy cherry, he's not angsty mood, he just is. and in this story he reads such like a guy. all the characters do. ken's on a bout of self discovery and schuldig just keeps nudging him along. it's not so much attitude as annoyance as he mentally talks to schuldig. the dialogue is just wonderfully realistic, even if it's one of the most random weiss pairings i've read. it works though, the context of the story sets it up perfectly. so much so that the ending - and, mind you, it's a good ending - is like a slap in the face.

~ i think we're alone now by shoori ~ ~omi/nagi, aya/ken, humor, song fic~
this short little story uses the tiffany song, yes, that tiffany song. it's most dialogue but sets up great visuals and easy parallels and it doesn't fall into the realm of pointless smut. not to mention that the reactions of the other members of weiss and schwartz are simply priceless. it's one of the few omi/nagi stories that i like and i like it because it's simple and cute.

~ judgment by miko no da ~ ~omi/nagi, omi/ken, au, drama~
eee! weiss as angels, i love weiss as angels! okay, it's not all of weiss. i guess i should say right now that i'm a sucker for weiss as angels au stories so there'll probably be a few of those on here. anyways, this is the love story of an angel and a demon cast out into the real world for loving each other, and guess what, they inhabit the souls of omi and nagi. it's a bit farfetched as there isn't any real catalyst for the discovery of their celestial selves. but it's innovative and interesting and she put in a plot twist that i would have never seen coming.

~ paradise lost by ana and sam ~ ~aya/ken, drama~
okay, i won't do stuff like this often and i'm not even in this rpg so don't think that i'm plugging it. i simply adore the way sam writes ken, he's giving him a little breakdown, letting him do some inner dialogue between himself and "siberian" and the writing is just wonderful. this rpg is a blast to read and the players are excellent. i'll admit this is a typical aya-gets-injured-and-realizes-ken-loves-him deal, but it's done well, and i find the characterizations refreshing. if you're strapped for fic or just interested, it never hurts to look, ne?

~ shiren de hi "trial by fire" by daemonchan ~ ~alternating tense, angst, drama, first pov~
in which the author explorers ken's past. i love the situation she's conjured up, and the parallelism, there are times when everything seems forced and too coincidential, but the dazzling descriptions (like burning plastic) make up for any fault. it's a simple story, about ken's past. he keeps having flashbacks about the fire that changed his life, as weiss struggles to take down a pryomaniac. it's blatant ken angst, but i never object to that.

~ the sweet hell we shared by marty ~ ~aya/ken, ken/kaze, aya/omc, au, death, drama, substance abuse~
this story is a complete au. none of the characters have powers or weapons or kitty code names. they're not angels simply soldiers. even the dynamics of usual fan relationships are missing, heck some of characer's don't even have the same personality. set during the vietnam war, it finds schuldig, farfarello, omi, ken, aya as army pilots, crawford and yohji as officers, nagi as veit cong, random takatoris... it's not so much a weiss story as it is an aya/ken story but even overshadowing the relationship it's a story about war and the descriptions of violence can be quite graphic at times, that is when it's not reminding me of "good morning vietnam."

~ to the end by gnine and x-parrot ~ ~drama~
finally, a story that's not slash. So it's a bit of a cliche idea, but it's got lovely themes, all about what weiss is, about what the relationship between each other is, are they teammates? are they family? the boys realize that their bonds go deep and that they're in it together for however long that may be. yes, it's one of those we're trapped in a place we can't get out stories, but the writing is on par and damn me, if it's not good.

~ to fight the dark by bridget ~ ~au, death, drama~
yay! more weiss as angels! (i told you i loved this concept.) schwartz as demons! double yay! so's here's the low down: omi is the voice of good (metatron), aya is the angel of death, ken is temperance, death's other half, to keep aya in check. yohji is just another unnamed angel. it's a celestial blood bath about the nature of faith and betrayl that ends when one of the angels falls. it's a gripping read, and a wonderful au that blends the very roles of weiss nicely into a different world.

~ weiss kreuz fairy tales by exileian ~ ~copious pairings, humor~
everyone in these stories is out of character and a complete fandom stereotype but it doesn't matter. exileian comes up with a simple concept and a wonderful execution of it. even the fact that it's not even in prose, doesn't matter. i've seen the most hilarious lines, and the best mental visuals sparked from this fic. if you're looking for something fun, lighthearted, and over the top, this'll satisfy.

~ zeit by sidara ~ ~aya/ken, aya/knight, ken/schuldig, angst, drama, non con, series~
this was one of the first stories i read, and it confused the hell out of me then, but the writing and plot was so well done that i hardly noticed. it makes references to the series and the manga as it weaves this subtle backstory along. a look behind the scenes if you will. of ken wanting more than friendship than aya. of aya sitting in the hospital daily with his sister, who can't let anyone else in. of yohji that just seems to know all. of omi who has his own struggles. of farfello who enjoys pain. and of schuldig that can't leave anything well enough alone. it's a tale of falling and hurting, of living and trying, and hoping and crying.
