a soft spot
for x-men

~ first, do no harm by poi lass ~ ~angst, death~
this is my favorite story in the entire x-fandom. it's format is unique, a series of emails between hank and bobby all with vague references of what's gone before. you can't help but wonder about the back story as hank wrestles with guilt and bobby prepares death. it's a story about guilt and forgiveness but really just about friendship, and thus brings a wide range of emotions so eloquently portrayed.

~ handbasket series by jane st. clair and te ~ ~hank/bobby, present tense~
normally i'm of the school that hank and bobby slash is just wrong. maybe it's because they're friends, maybe it's because they're different, maybe it's because hank is blue... kidding... mostly, but these stories are the exception. it's set in the ultimate universe which helps me believe it more, so hank is a bit less chipper and bobby's a bit younger and their both still trying to adjust to everything new. it's tough being an x-men and it's tough being a teen. and it's tough trying to focus when you have bobby drake nestling by your side because that keeps making you think of lolita.

~ thick as thieves by lori mcdonald and valerie jones ~ ~bobby/ofc, series~
what an odd pair of characters to put together. what an odd situation. it's not slash, it's almost slightly au. so we all know that remy is big to do in the theivin' world and we all know that bobby drake is the all american kid (he's an account for chrissake!), so they shouldn't really have much to discuss, right? wrong. bobby accidently stumbles into the underground world and finds himself in over his head when it comes to things like guilds and theiving, so who better to teach him that gambit himself. so bobby studies to become a thief and gains a better understanding as to remy's life and gets a few eye openers along the way.
