Found it, however it was more difficult
than expected. My Garmin 3+ showed a 10m offset at the cache location to
the exact 49N9E position. My girlfriend didn't trust the machine and found
it anyways. The pictures on the cache homepage were helpful. It's a nice
place for a cache.
Traded out the snaplight, traded in: Bus
Ticket of Kyoto, Italian Telephone Card, Korean Stamp 400 Won, One Rollerblade
Wheel (used), Ignition Key of Kawasaki Zephyr ZRX 750, One ball of the
frontwheel bearing of the same motorbike which broke down on a trip to
Hokkaido/Japan (see homepage for pics of the intact bike), One Lollipop.
Had a lot of fun!

Had to check several potential places before
I found the right spot. Was fun seeking it, but on a sunny saturday there
are many people strolling around the area. Had to wait some time to be
able to hide it again in secret. The cache is in good condition. The box
is quite small, and so I couldn't dump the CD case I took from GC77 earlier
that day (the one coming from Australia). Took the liqueur, left a lolli
and some batteries. I recommend using the ELBE ferry coming from north,
the ride down to the cache is most relaxing. Giorgio

This seems to be the most frequented cache in Germany. Great, a long logbook makes the find more interesting. Had the chance to visit the area during a trip to Berlin from southern Germany, did 2 caches on that day. Thanks to the pics I had no problems in finding. The cache is in good condition. Traded out a CD case, left a screwdriver set and a Dotwin from McD. Giorgio

This was the cache with the most beautiful surroundigs for us (Cache around the World, Motocrash and Giorgio) so far. Beautiful sunny sunday and springtime. Went with our motorbikes and had a lof of fun on the winding road up to the cache. I probed several places, but finally it was C.A.T.W. again who found it first. Cache was in perfect condition, seems we were the first to find it. Took the pina colada, left a CD case, a padlock, some Dextro tablets and an icescraper. The CD case was actually taken from GC77 in Berlin this Saturday and before it was reportedly in a GeoCache in Australia (see GC77 records). Had a nice afternoon and a lot of fun. The Rhine View Stash by Rhine
Knight
N 50° 00.431 E 007° 51.761 (WGS-84)
We decided to spend the days after Himmelfahrt
riding motorbike and seeking some caches in the Rhine and Mosel area, and
this one was our first (1 pm). The weather was perfect: Sunny blue sky
and clear view. The parking lot we found was just perfect: There is a tiny
railway-bridge next to where the road comes closest to the cache (180m).
Our two bikes fit in, maybe also a car. The ascent proved to be very strenuous,
partly because of the heat, partly because of the steep climb, partly because
we were wearing our heavy bike clothing. The latter was on the other hand
perfect against the Brombeer-spines, Brennesseln and obtrusive insects.
Nevertheless we were rewarded with a splendid view. C.A.T.W. found the
cache first again, and was very happy about it. My GPS insisted that the
spot had to be some 60m distant from the actual location.
Traded in: Goat-bell, Inline-Skate-Wheel,
Lavazza Candies, Liqueur-Bottle (Collected from GC38B). Traded out: Wrist-Watch.
Had a lot of fun.

N 50° 12.381 E 007° 20.010 (WGS-84)
After doing the Rhine View Stash at noon, we had a wonderful motorbike-tour along the rhine-river, across the Hunsrueck and down the Mosel river. After finding a place to stay near Cochem, we drove to Burg Elz (7pm). Anyone spending the night like we did, might consider staying in one of the small pensions on the road beetween Mosel and Burg Elz, they look nice. Unfortunately we found them too late. The view of the castle in the evening light is spectacular, definitely worth the visit. The cache was found quickly within a few minutes. Reading Vinnie's comment before, we had prepared a few plastic bags and replaced the old blue bag, which was indeed totally ripped apart. The new bag is green. Traded out a pocket knife, traded in a wrist watch (collected from Rhine View stash), Lavazza Candies, a Karabiner-Keyholder, a Goat-Bell, an Inline-Skate-Wheel. Rounded the day off with some Mosel-Wein and Spargel in Klotten. Great Day.

The last of our three caches targeted on our Rhine-Mosel holiday. Went there around noon on another perfect sunny warm spring day. We parked our motorbikes in front of Dodge City and walked the rest (we did it the easy way :-) The climbing proved to be the easiest part. Hiding away for a full hour of intensive seeking, the cache finally showed its green plastic bag. This was the hardest search for us so far, even C.A.T.W. , who found nearly all, has to admit this. Couldn't get a good position fix, maybe due to all these trees. The hideout really is a cool place. It seems that there is some connection to a grotto or something, because very cold air is coming out of the place. In the hot afternoon it was refreshing to feel the extreme coldness. Somebody should place icecream there ... Totally sweated and exhausted from the 1-hour search, including climbing and turning nearly every stone around the place, we were very happy with our find. Traded out a CD and a bottle-opener, traded in a set of cards, a goat-bell, an inline-skate-wheel, some Lavazza-candies a sheep and a penguin. I just read that the stash has been visited again later the same day! We may have passed ourselves on the way to/from there! We had a lot of fun with our three caches in two days and are looking forward to doing something this again soon.

Drusus' Cache by nici- & Vinnie-
N 51° 52.122 E 006° 11.471 (WGS-84)
After seeing Vinnies and Nicis log in nearly every logbook we had so far, finally we could make it to their home-stash. Coming from Stuttgart, most of the German caches are unfortunately quite far away for us. We used this long weekend for a two-day-tour to the north and tried our luck. This was the second cache that day after Gebbes on the other side of the border. Drusus' was a hard one :-) Spent about 3.5h in total, including lunch on the main place of Elten in the summer sun. The tasks were quickly solved, but first we forgot to substract the 100 (Greetings to Hawkeyes) due to a nasty linebreak in our printout. Second, we were not able to match the sketch to the actual surroundings. Probed nearly every tree-stump in the area, and there are many. We were already on our way back to the car when we gave it one last try and relied solely (!) on the GPS coordinates readout. It lead us to a place some 10m distant than before. Pushed my little shovel in the ground there and heared the confirming clonck. Finally! Cache is in good condition, but the next visitor could replace the plastic bags, which are torn partly. Took the JoJo and the paradox clock, left a Koala-bear, postcards, pocket calculator and a tricky game. Thanks to Wickie (we came to abbreviate Vinnie and Nicki because we have to read it so often ;-) ) for this adventurous afternoon. P.S.: How long did it take to set this cache up? We were amazed how you made the figures fit the cache location. P.P.S.: Didn't expect to be able to see the Rhine from the cache location, great! P.P.P.S: After Drusus, we went to hide the cache Library near Lesenbuechen. You are invited to drop by when you are in the area.

Coming from Stuttgart/Germany, we are rarely in the north and decided to use the long weekend to try our luck with some geocaches in the north. We started at 5am in Stuttgart/Germany and arrived around 11am in the area. CATW found the stash without problems (GPSIII+, EPE8 DOP2.0). Took the lighter and CD (did not fit in any more), left a travellunch pina colada (collected from cache Southpark near Stuttgart, bring some water with you), make-up and a small game. Were stunned by the area on the hike to the viewpoint (went there directly but found a signboard later prohibiting this... better use the trails). Recommendations: Come in July, when the blueberries are fully ripe. Unfortunately no boars to be seen, but we met a cute duck-family on the green pond. The baby-ducks were roaming the lake like speed-boats. Proceeded to Drusus' cache on the other side of the border. CATW & Giorgio

Hey, we're first! Or maybe all the other seekers have been eaten up by the mosquitos and didn't have time to sign the logbook. Went there after a quick dinner in the Post in Gemuenden. This gave the rain the chance to cease before we started. Parked the car as recommended, but tried some direct route which turned out to require waterproof boots, which we didn't bring ... Did some detours around fenced tree-nurseries, rock-fields and thickets. Around us the bullets of the evening deer hunters were whistling, but we made it! In the last daylight, we reached the top and, as always, CATW found it first. It takes two people to do this cache, one is needed to fight the insects while the other one does the log. Took the darts game, left 4 AA Batteries, a game and the phone flasher from cache Siebengebirge. We were _very_ proud to beat Wickie the first time, nearly on their home-territory. Thanks to Rhine Knight for taking us there. Just before the big rain came, we made it to the car and returned home to Stuttgart. Great day with five successful cache challenges. As of today, 16.06.2001, we collected _all_ 18 German geocaches (hid five of them by ourselves)! Hopefully, the geocaching crowd hides lots of new caches soon, or we need to seek a new hobby! Since it rained all day this sunday, I
wanted to get as close as possible to the cache. Tried a first approach
from the east and could drive as close as 800m. Then came a very steep
hill. Didn't want to risk a dircect cross-country approach in the downpour.
Next try was from the west, again less than 800m close and again there
was a gorge between me and the cache. Tried hard but could not locate the
recommended parking lot. Ran out of time because I had to get back to Germany
in the evening. Should maybe have consulted a map in advance and reserved
more time (and should have gone with better weather in the first place).
Unsatisfied. Giorgio

Took advantage of the fine weather this
saturday and made a motorbike-tour to the Teck castle. Came from a different
parking lot than recommended and had tremendous problems to get any GPS
signal at all in the dense forest. Actually we circled once fully around
Teck castle until we got the first position fix. Once the bearing was established,
the find was easy, however the terrain deserves the rating. I wonder what
happens to the cache when the local forest workers come to clean up the
mess. Took the skipass-holder, left a postcard, a dart-game (collected

Giorgio

Coming directly from Stuttgart, we found the place without problems, actually it was a little bit too easy (CATW's difficulty rating: Terrain 2 Difficulty 1.5). The area with the rocks is stunning and the cache place is well chosen. Enjoyed the hunt. We hid the container behind the rock at the same place (not before), but it can still be seen without digging or climbing. We traded the dehydrated food against a Penguin with sun-chair (from cache Techer near Stuttgart), and a few postcards. After the cache we did the cave-tour, which is definitely worth the visit. At the moment we are actually sitting at the Forellenhof next to the Teufelshoehle after a very delicious smoked-trout lunch (hacking this log into my Palm, will upload into the net in the evening). We were on our way back to Germany with
our motorbikes from our summer-holiday in Sardegna/Italy when we spontaneously
decided to approach this cache. While driving the road from Sihlbrugg to
Zurich, the cache kind of fell into our way. I usually have my GPS receiver
attached to the motorbike cockpit during tours and have the moving map
on display to help navigation. Suddenly, I saw the dollar-sign I only use
for Geocaches in the display! (As a kind of precaution, I did download
all Geocache coordinates in Switzerland and Italy before the holiday :-)
Since the road we were driving approaches the cache as near as 1.5 km,
we _had_ to go for it. We did it the easy way with the cable-car. CATW
found it within 5 minutes. Thanks to the ziplock bags, the content is in
good condition. The tupperware box gets wet inside, however. We wrapped
the box in a vinyl to prevent water damage. The view during the hike really
is fantastic. Since it was already late in the afternoon, we decided to
spend the night in the area and drove up the Albis-Pass and stayed in the
Windegg-Hotel, which has rooms with a view of the lake and Zurich. Nearly
as splendid as from the Uetliberg. CATW & Giorgio

Took advantage of the holiday and made
a pleasant tour through the autumn-colored Odenwald to the cache. Had to
cheat on the compass bearing, couldn't make out the correct tower in Frankfurt
and only had the Garmin as a compass, not a very good way to get a precise
bearing. I was still trying to get a good bearing to the target coordinates
from the parking lot (distance reading ~35m) while CATW started her analytical
approach and was faster (again). Found the stash within 3 minutes after
arriving at the location (Greetings to Gschwanz :-) I bet you parked your
car just next to it ...) I think the coordinates you obtain by the calculation
offset you from the real cache location by some 30m, maybe the cache owner
can check this out. Forgot to take a waypoint myself for reference, sorry.

Did the first stage some weeks before,
see log below. Meanwhile some Stage#2 coordinates changed and Gerhard was
so friendly to send a fast update by email, thanks again! Tried one in
a direct approach, including a _very_ steep uphill climb, rocks, swamps,
thorny undergrowth etc. Arrived exhausted. As usual, it was CATW who spotted
the cache first. Good condition, no maintenance needed. Somehow we managed
the steep hill back down in one piece and went off to the next one. Tried
to be smart and drive to the one the most distant, thinking that these
two would complete the puzzle. Were glad that the long hike from the parking
lot involved nearly no altitude changes. Good condition here, too, but
the plastic bag was rotten. We replaced it, the new bag is blue. Being
fairly exhausted already, we were shattered to the bones by the fact that
the these two caches were not enough, we needed a third one. Luckily, that
one was done in no time. Good condition here, too. There was the complete
puzzle and we made our success march to the final stage. Approx. 500 cars
were parked near the location .... sunny sunday, that's why. Fortunately
we were by ourselves in the stash area. Cache is in perfect condition.

Started in Stuttgart at 6:30 in the morning
and arrived around 9:30 am at the Kreuzkapelle. The numbers were quickly
found, but having only 25m visibility due to fog, we had to use both cheats
(couldn't even see the benches from C.#1). Calculated the final coordinates
and off we went with the car ... We searched the final location (or we
thought it might be) for about 20 minutes, the bullets of the morning deer
hunters were whistling around us, but no cache. CATW decided to recalculate
and found our error instantly - we forgot one subtraction. Back into the
car and to where we came from. The rest was fairly easy (CATW found it
first, as usual). The cache is in perfect condition. I got a distance reading
of 22m on the cache location (incl. 30 averages at 9m EPE). We guess the
view from the Kreuzkapelle is magnificent. The fog definitely is. Cheers,

We did it the easy way and drove by car to the viewpoint as starting
point. Snow on the track and a chilling wind made the 800m hike to the
number on the fence quite tiring anyway. Was fun to see the planes land
and depart while hiking along the runway. When we saw the number, we recognized
that we could have used the same number on the roadsign a few minutes before.
That would have been the very easy way. Collected our car and drove over
near the next location. OK, the last few meters might not have been legal
by car, but it was very cold. The fauna is unbelievable: So close to the
noisy airport, but still we saw a few falcons and we startled a deer, followed
by a rabbit. The Garmin led us directly on top of the cache, which is in
good condition. Cheers, Giorgio & CATW.

It was raining or snowing all day, but we decided to challenge the Processor
Cache anyways. Had to drive the first leg a few times until we got the
trick with the eternal light. Visibility was very low and the last time
we drove by, we wouldn't have recognized the light without knowing that
it was there. Drove over to collect the waypoint and figured out the final
coordinates by the distance/bearing hint. Started to hike on the final
approach from 1500m distance line-of-sight. Weather was deteriorating,
water/snow from above, the dirt tracks in the forest were wet and slippery.
At the given coordinates the satellite reception was quite bad and the
target spot jumped from here to there. Since everything was covered by
snow, we had a hard locating potential spots. Turned everything we saw,
but in a diameter of ~20m, no cache to be found. After a one hour search,
our shoes and clothes were soaked through and we gave up. This the first
cache we didn't find so far. Disappointed. Giorgio & CATW
