Isaiah 53 Revisited

of his enemies (Saul and others), he was never killed, but became victorious over them. God protected him and crowned him to rule 40 years over Israel. He lived a full life with many children and was able to appoint his successor, his own son, Solomon (1Ki.1:48).

What then of Isaiah 53 which speaks of the “the Servant of the Lord,” and tells of rejection and death? The Divine Principle states that God gave dual prophecies. Why should this be so? Because, the completion of God’s will on earth is dependent on man fulfilling his portion of responsibility before God. “If” man demonstrates faith, obedience and love in accepting the Messiah, for example; he would be coronated, reign and accomplish the fruits of the victorious Lord (the glorious predictions, e.g., Is.9:6-7). “If” the chosen people are faithless, rebellious and disbelieving, then Satan would surely invade them, thus causing rejection, suffering and death of the Lord.

How does Isaiah 53 depicts this? It is mentioned in the text: Vs.1 opens: “Who has believed our report?….Vs. 3: He was despised and rejected by man...and we esteemed him not….” (The onus is on man’s response) In the above text, when examined closely, the failure of the people in not believing the message of the Servant of God, caused them to despise, reject, afflict and eventually kill him.

It is important to note, that the text does not identify the Servant of God as the Messiah-king - the "anointed one," it is only presumed that he is the promised Messiah by Christian scholars, in a post facto interpretation due to Jesus’ death.

From the standpoint of God’s providence, the Messiah (anointed King)is the one who comes to establish the substantial Kingdom of God on earth and in Heaven. However, "the forerunner to the Messiah" (who also comes from the House of David -Lk.1:69) comes to prepare and straighten the path for the Lord. He comes as an atoning prophet—Lk.1:69 (as Jesus said: ”He is more than a prophet…”-Mt.11:9). This Servant suffers before God to prepare the way for the victorious Messiah; thus, John the Baptist whom God prepared to fulfill this position (the Servant of the Lord), grew up in solitude, isolation, and lived a hermitic life in the wilderness of Judea (3:4; Lk.1:80).

Jesus should have been the accepted, recognized and victorious Messiah-king as God revealed through the angel Gabriel (Lk.1:31-33). Jesus understood this fully, he did all he could, hoping and pleading for the people to believe in him as the promised Messiah. He gave many parables of what the Kingdom of Heaven is like and, he beseeched and implored them to follow him to build the Kingdom (endless verses of the Bible testify to the above). Unbeknownst to conventional thinking, he should have been accepted and, in so doing, establish his marriage and model holy family (Ps.45), and expand the eternal ideal of the Kingdom of God not only over the House of Jacob, but over all nations of the world.

Noah (Continued)

“Due to the heavy rain, the entire world was dark. Lightening and thunder were ceaseless. Realizing that this was a punishment from God, I only continued to pray. All I was wondering about was when would God’s indignation end. Forty days after, when the rains eased, God said my faith had calmed His indignation. All my family members then followed my directions and depended on me. There was unity in my family. It was a happy time for us together.”

I said to him: “May I ask you about the mistake made by Ham?” He replied: “That year, all of us worked very hard. The harvest of grapes was a great success. We were so happy. One day, I had a glass of wine after working hard and happened to fall asleep out of fatigue. I must have been too hot from drinking the wine and without realizing it, had taken off all my clothes. Usually, my second son was obedient to me. He must have wanted to see if I was sleeping comfortably. Seeing me naked must have surprised him. My family members who had just returned from work saw me and made a commotion about my state. Especially my wife was upset with me, asking why I could not take care of myself as a person who attended God. The fact that I could not do it became a great sin before God. I had become arrogant rather that being humble. For this, God punished us. God always think that humility comes first.”

Noah attended God all his life. He thought that God should be able to forgive the mistake of Ham, but He would not. If God had forgiven him, it would have been a condition for Satan to invade further. This is the law of the spirit world. There is no exception in the heavenly law. Therefore, those who wanted to be treated generously before God should live a life that can pass the heavenly law in the spirit world.
