From
the time of it's establishment in the early 1960's, transpersonal
psychology has expanded the field of psychology beyond the psychodynamic/clinical,
behaviorist, cognitive, humanistic and existentialist orientations
to include the whole range of human experience.
Transpersonal
psychology includes studies of altered states of consciousness, mind-body
healing, religious and mystical experience, spiritual growth teachings
and practices, shamanism, meditation, pre and perinatal experiences,
dying and near-death experiences.
Transpersonal
psychotherapy is centrally concerned with questions of value, meaning,
purpose and spirit whilst encompassing familial, social, ecological,
global and cosmic contexts.
