East High Geography Web Quest
Instructions:

     Depending on how big your screen is you will want to do one of two things.If you have a normal sized screen, you will want to print out the instructions on this page first and then click on the East High Photo link and follow along. If you have a large screen, right click on East High Photo under My Favorite Links. In the window that appears, click on the Open in New Window. This will open the starting point for your Web Quest. Grab the blue bar at the top of the new window and move it so you can read both the instructions and see the picture.

1) This is an aerial photo, with East High School in the center. List 3 features that you can identify on the East High campus.

2) How is this picture different from how East High looks today?  List 2 things.

3) On the picture, move 2 inches west from East High and 1 inch south. You should find a city block with a plus sign running from corner to corner of the city block. Click on the area to center it in the middle of your screen. What is on this city block?

4) Go to the top of the picture and find the hand that points north and click on it. In the middle of this picture is an open area. What is this feature?

5) Go to the top of the picture and click on the hand pointing north. In the northwest corner of this picture is a large city block with only a few buildings and a "U" shaped feature. There is a school on this block. What school is it?

6) Go to the top of the picture and click on the hand pointing north. In this picture there are 3 major landmarks in this picture. Name them. Hint: the first one is located 1 inch west from the center of the picture, the second is 2 inches west and 1 inch south of the center, and the third is 2 inches east and 1 inch south from the center.

7) Click on the third landmark to center it in the middle. Then click on the hand pointing east once, and then click on the hand pointing south 3 times. In the northern part of this picture, about 1 inch from the hand pointing north is a circular object with a shadow. What is this object?  EXTRA CREDIT: What time of day was this picture taken?

8) Click on the hand pointing east. Just to the west of the center of this picture is another school. What school is this? How do we know this is a school?

9) Click on the hand pointing east 2 times and then click on the hand pointing south 3 times. There is another school in this picture on the east side of this map. What is this school and what is the human feature that identifies it as a school?

10) Click on the hand pointing south once and click on the hand pointing west once. What is the name of the physical feature in the middle of the picture?

11) Click on the hand pointing west 2 times. What landmark do we see in the northwest corner of this picture?

12) Click on the hand pointing west 3 times. This is the intersection of Kimball and San Marnan. Name 5 businesses that would now be located in the southern part of this picture?

13) Click on the hand pointing north 2 times and click on the hand pointing west 1 time. Name the park on the west side of this picture?

14) Click on the hand pointing north 1 time and click on the hand pointing west 2 times. In the very northwest corner of this picture is a round object. Click on this object to center it. Where are we?

15) Without backtracking, describe how to get back to East High School. You must include written directions of how many clicks in what direction and have 5 landmarks along the way. You will present this to the entire class.
