Measuring Voltage in a DC circuitFig 8 To measure the voltage dropped across Lp1, disconnect the power supply to the circuit and connect the leads from the meter as shown in the diagram, Select the voltage range on the meter (if you are ever in doubt choose the highest range and work down to obtain the value). Switch on the power and note:- Results obtained from reading After noting the results. Use Ohms law to calculate the value of the voltage drop by using the information from Fig 7.
Write down the value obtained using Ohms Law: -
Are the results different and if so why? |

Measuring Current Flow First disconnect the power supply from the circuit. Set the Digital multimeter to read Amps Connect the meter into the circuit as shown Reconnect the power supply and switch on Sw1 Note the readings obtained Use Ohms law to calculate the expected result from the data supplied with Fig 7. Are there any variations? if so why is this? |

Using the meter to measure Resistance
Take five resistors at random and measure the resistance with the multimeter. as shown in fig 10 Set the multimeter to measure Ohms on the highest scale and reduce the setting until you obtain a suitable reading. Write the results of the test on a sheet of paper and keep this for the next stage of the lesson. |
