3.2c Telecommuting Today

Over the past nineteen months, "telecottage" centres have been set up to group people who telecommute together. This because there is talent in the telecottage with workers learning new skills as well as applying their own. Teleworkers are lik ely to get involved in a broader range of activities and gain more business experience than office workers. This is because the workers will probably be in situations where they have to do everything like ordering goods to managing their own finances. T hey may well have this support from their employer.

Teleworking in the home can help offices conserve space and reduce the overheads of running it. It helps the worker to live flexibly without the interruptions of the office, thus improving their quality of life. If they have children, they can look afte r them as well - but there has to be an adaptive method to balance the work and child responsibilities.
