>> [ Phase 12: Cheetax acts first. In changing forms, she went from 16/40 >> STUN (Felinoid form) to 12/31 (same ratio). Then she took >> one recovery, for 9 STUN, to 21 STUN. >> >>[oh I had forgotten about the change in stats. oh well, here goes..] >Cheetah knowing this can't last much longer. She does not have >much more strength and 2 of the 3 others are not in the fight >anymore. ------ [ Umm - maybe there's a misunderstanding. Cheetah has 21 STUN left out of 31 - i.e. is at over two thirds of full strength. Not full, but recovered a fair bit of wind. Also, she will get another recovery at the end of phase 12 - this phase - barring of course more damage. You might want to think of it this way: Cheetax took a powerful hit, which dazed her. While still weakened, she knocked X into a tree, changed into the Cheetah, then took a moment to catch her breath. She has recovered somewhat from that moment to catch her breath, and will recover almost completely just from the normal course of events. ] ---- The cheetah revels in her freedom. Cooped, almost caged, in Laura's apartment, Cheetax could not change into the fully bestial form. She had almost forgotten the exhilarating feeling of being truly, completely wild. She sniffs the air - no, this is not the African savannah - not even a truly wild place, just a small patch of green in the middle of a city. Human and machine smells all around. Still better than nothing, though. But she remembers, no time for running free now. The Felinoid form's enemy is out there, beyond the tree, by the burning tree. She can hear him, can smell the soot and woodsmoke. She querys her memories of the foe: he's a man with a gun, a hunter, just like the ones that captured her on the African plains. The Cheetax form may not know how to deal with hunters, but the cheetah does - more than one tried and failed, before they finally brought her to the cement and steel hell of the laboratories. It's all in the gun. The humans are soft, slow, and weak, it's their lightning-sticks that make them deadly. Keep them from using those, and they are at your mercy. Gathering all the speed she can produce, the wild animal bolts toward Mr. X with the maximum speed available for a Cheetah. As she is charging, she concentrates on his arm that he keeps using for the "beam attack". "Ssshow yourssself, Creature!" her target snarls, looking around for her, but doesn't see her in the darkness, as he is near the burning tree. [ Stealth roll: 10. ] She keeps low to the ground to make her a harder target to hit, should she be heard, but the pads of her paws make no sound on the grass. When he finally spots her, it is too late. When close enough Cheetah jumps, jaws open, for the gun arm. "What? What IS that?" he screams, and tries to step aside in his serpentine way - but he doesn't anticipate the attack being for his gun arm, not his body, and the Cheetah bites. [ Cheetah DEX 23, so base OCV 8. -1 for move-and-attack, -1 for Grab. I won't give you any additional penalties for aiming for the arm, since you apparently want to immobilize the weapon, and a character who has been grabbed typically has both his arms immobilized. Since the Cheetah doesn't have arms to grab with, you'll only immobilize that one arm, though. +3 for surprise attack total (sneaking up, unexpected form, unexpected attack for arm). The Cheetah has 3 hand-to-hand combat skill levels you didn't specify, but I would guess you want them on attack, OCV. So net OCV 8-2+6=12. To-hit roll: 10, hits easily. ] The Cheetah clamps down with as much strength as she can muster. [ Reduced penetration bite: 2 x (1d6+1): roll 6 BODY + 4 BODY, 30 STUN before armor.] The metal and plastic arm armor bends, but does not break. "Aaargh!" The green armored man gasps, and falls to one knee, the Cheetah still staying attached to his gun arm. This one is not so soft, she feels - he might as well be covered in rhino hide, and many layers of that. But still, if she can keep him from using his gun, she'll wear him down in time. "Releassse me, ssstupid animal! I have not time for thisss!" He does not try to shake free, as if realizing he would probably be weaker than the Cheetah - instead he reaches his left hand down to his belt, pulls another flash grenade, and triggers it, at point blank range, directly in his own, and the Cheetah's, faces. [The Cheetah wasn't particularly expecting this, since you didn't specify she was keeping her eyes closed after biting, and X is NOT giving her a warning by looking away himself. However the attack has been pulled on her just recently before. DEX vs DEX contest to see if she shuts her eyes in time: X rolls 10 against 9 + DEX/5, Cheetah rolls 13 against 9 + 23/5=13, X succeeds by more, Cheetah is flashed for (dice roll) 4 phases.] The bright light in the semi-darkness is blinding, and the animal does not shut her eyes in time. Apparently neither did the nearby Tiger's Son, who cries out and takes a few unaimed steps that the cheetah can still hear. But she thinks mainly about her own plight. She should have paid more attention to the Felinoid form's memories, and less time glorying in her freedon, she thinks, reproachfully. But now she has no choice - she can only hang on to the hunter's arm, or lose him entirely, after which he could shoot her again. The heat of the burning tree bathes her side. Doctor D staggers a few more steps with his burden. You can tell he is stressed as he doesn't talk. "Assist him, Shofar! Impel your gross carcass with a momentum it is no doubt unused to - and portage our friend to the Aenid. I'll take those car keys, and start her up myself." "Grunt." Heavy steps crush leaves in the north of the park, and a lighter tread races towards the west. Doctor D. greets him, "Thank you Shofar - let's get to the car. The Tigers and cats are breeding like gnats. If we don't wanna get beat, we gotta move our feet." The kid in the tree tries yelling for help again - and is again ignored. [ Recoveries for everyone. The Cheetah is up to 30 STUN, almost full STUN, though blinded. She is holding on to X's gun arm, and knows roughly where he is. Each is at half DCV due to being attached to each other. No map in this turn for obvious reasons. Cheetah gets to move first next phase due to having highest DEX around. Tactics? ]
