An update on the Rankin Family/ Laura Smith et al concert on July 6 at the
College of Piping and Celtic Performing Arts in Summerside PEI. It turns out
that there were closer to 5000 fans on hand for the concert, most of
whom stayed throughout the entire day - from 1 - 6 pm . The heaviest rains
came during the Rankin's almost hour set. According to those backstage, the
sound technicians and road manager advised against the group going on for
their encore, due to the wet conditions on stage. One of the group was
overheard to say If they sat in the rain throughout all this we'll keep
playing as long as they want us to - which they effectively did by doing 2
encores, each of which contained multiple requests.
No one left disappointed.
The College, which has presented Great Big Sea, Cherish the Ladies, and
Scatter the Mud 2 weekends ago at their Highland Gathering, has a full
schedule of events taking place over the summer. One special event coming up
of interest to families, is a concert at their "domed" amphitheatre on
July 20 featuring Cape Breton children's entertainers Kidd Brothers which
follows the Summerside Lobster Carnival parade at 3:30 pm. For complete
information on this and other events check out the College's web site at
