While it makes sense to reupholster a 20 year old
sofa set that cost between two to three thousand dollars at the time, it may not however
be worth recovering something that cost $700.00 ten years ago, unless of course you really
like it and the frame is solid. Always keep in mind, that unless you order "custom made', today's high priced furniture, especially if it has wide arms, comes with a "box type" frame that is NOT hardwood, and therefore disposable. There is no comparison to the frames of furniture built 10 years ago or before. Rule of thumb is, that the older the furniture, the better it is. The new Box frames , are mostly foam, and when it goes, in a very short time in most cases, it is not fixable, while the old hardwood frames, are still like new after the number of years you have lived on them. If a piece of furniture is still solid after 10 to 15 years or more, it has to be hardwood, or it would not be around today. |
