A Gemini & The Other Gemini
My memoirs
BOOK SUMMARY

This is the life story a man now eighty years old, who left a little village school at the age of fourteen, barely literate or numerate, the eldest son of a very poor but very happy family. Living in a humble, isolated country cottage. Endowed with extreme vitality, a restless energy and a constantly enquiring and inventive mind, full of ambitions most of which were realised.

Becoming a highly skilled craftsman by the age of eighteen, then serving five years in the R.A.F. during the war. In the Scout movement from the age of nine learning more there and at night school than at the village school. Starting his own business after the war, that was successfully run for 47 years progressing to 32 employees in 6000 sq.ft of freehold property, much of which he built himself.

Spent half his adult life in the Scout movement rising to the rank of assistant County Commissioner. Founding and running a Scout Group in The Red Cross Memorial Hospital at Cliveden Taplow for 15 years. At the same time producing the Burnham District Scout Gang show. Also founding and building the Dorneywood Scout Camp one of the finest in the south of England. Founding the annual Six Counties Scout Camp for boys with a Handicapped. From Bucks, Berks, Beds Hants Herts and Oxon.

Joining the local church choir at the age of seven. Boy soloist. Blessed with a fine baritone voice. Told he should concentrate on that, but took to singing and being soloist for all the many choirs and coral societies for miles around as well as entertaining Darby & Joan clubs and clubs for the disabled.

Married late at the age of 37. Fathering three children. Parting from his wife after twenty-two years, but remaining close until her recent death.

Twenty-eight years ago was forced to resign from the Scout Movement when, he was seen by one homophobic policeman, (who lied in court) for allegedly committing an act of gross Indecency. He was on his own in a locked cubicle of a local public toilet. A criminal conviction was the price of no publicity. Most of his contemporaries were told that his offence was of a sexual nature and thus assumed that boys had been involved.

He then bought a 28ft. sailing Yacht in kit form. Spent three years fitting it out. Then 25 years sailing in her with family and friends.

Since retiring at the age of seventy-four he has spent six years writing these memoirs. He has never been bitter about what happened to him. He has been too busy for that. Not being famous or infamous he has had this printed at his own expense after being turned down by many publishers,  Confident that those who read this book will have a better understanding of Gays and what it has been like to be gay. About the grossly unfair discrimination that gays have had to live with and although things have improved a great deal, just in the last few years, there is still a long way to go and he offers this book as a contribution towards the campaign for full equality with-in the law that will include the repeal of the law on Gross Indecency.

Homophobia is Ignorance,
just not understanding or wanting to.

Prologue

I don't believe in astrology but it is a lot of fun. As my star sign is two figures I thought it would be fitting to use Gemini in the tile. For much of my busy life I was (in the closet). Hiding my sexuality, living a double life. A sort of Jekyll & Hyde. A GEMINI/ is my life as most people knew me. THE OTHER GEMINI is about my gay life

The first 1,000 copies (228 pages A5) was published in 2002.

"......this is an exhaustive and sometimes exhausting account of Geroge Montague's life from this earlierst years. It offers some fascinating details of rural life in the between-wars, England of the time.....he was a devoted and prominent scout, reaching the rank of commissioner......we learn that the author is not only the extraordinarily accomplished craftsman, singer, devoted employer and family man portrayed in the earlier sections, but human like ourselves with similar drives and failings. This book will be interest mainly to older readers, who may be able to relate to Geroge Montague's experience......."    A REVIEW BY CHUCK PRINGLE   OF  Thai Guys
