Horse Treats

Horse Cookies

From Horse and Rider Magazine

15 cups sweet feed
4 12 oz. jars dark molasses
1 cup water
5 cups flour

Mix the first 3 ingredients. Add enough flour to hold the dough toegether.

Coat mini muffin tins with vegetable spray. Using spoon, press dough into each compartment. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on wire rack. Store in airtight container. Cost is about $10 for dozens of treats.

Horse Nuggets

4 cups rolled oats
2 cups sweet feed
5 cups bran
1 - 1 1/2 cups molasses

In large bowl, mix grains together. Pour 1 cup of molasses over grains and knead together till mixed well. Add more molasses if needed to bind. Place 1/2 cup dollops on a greased cookie sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Store in plastic bag in fridge for short term. Can freeze remainder.

Oatmeal Treats

1 cup oil, canola is good or corn 
1 cup honey
1 cup molassas
1 egg
2 cups whole wheat flour
2 cups oats
1 tsp. baking soda
2 cups grated apple
1 cups grated carrot

Mix all wet ingredients.Add dry. Drop by tablespoons on greased  cookie sheet. Bake in preheated, 350 degree oven for 10-12 minutes, till well browned.

 Cool on rack. Store in airtight container.

Stable Treats

1 cup butter, soft or room temperature
3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup raisins
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup alfalfa pellets

Cream butter with sugar. Add eggs. Stir in dry ingredients gradually. Drop by spoonfuls on greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Store in airtight container.

Horsie Muffins

3 cups sweetfeed
12 0z. molasses
1 cup whole wheat flour
a little bit of water
optional- grated apple or carrot

Mix first 4 ingredients. Add a little bit of water if needed to bind nicely. Spray muffin pan with veg oil spray like Pam. Put about 1/4 cup of mix in each cup, pressing down well.

Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes. Cool on rack. Store in airtight container. Makes about 3 dozen muffins.

Oatmeal Cookies

2 cups oats, rolled or quick will work
2 tbs molassas
1 grated apple
1/4 cup water or juice

Mix all 4 ingredients. Form into cookie shapes and place on greased or non stick cookie sheet.

Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes. Cool on rack. Store in airtight container.
