* It is a controversial subject as to whether or not Neurontin posesses mood stabilizing characteristics. Its efficacy as a mood stabilizer has not been proven in controlled studies against placebo, although some bipolar patients do report improvement in mood when taking Neurontin. Furthermore, Neurontin has a reputation for causing manic breakthroughs, especially in prepubescent children. Neurotin has, however, been shown effective in the treatment of anxiety, a common comorbid condition with bipolar disorder. Neurontin is also effective in the treatment of neurological pain.
