| Malkhaz Asatiani is one of the great hopes for the future of Georgian Football. Asatiani began his career at hometown club Torpedo Kutaisi where he stayed for three and a half years helping them win the Georgian League three years in a row. Asatiani is best deployed as an attacking midfielder with his superb dribbling and strong shots proving a problem for opposition defenders. Asatiani left Torpedo midway through the 2002-2003 season to sign for Russian champions Lokomotiv Moscow. Asatiani hasnt quite made himself a regular in the starting lineup but the experience of training with better players on a day to day basis should stand him in good stead. Asatiani has also played some important games for the Georgian National Team. Asatiani was hailed as a National hero for scoring the winner against bitter rivals Russia in a EURO 2004 qualifier. Asatiani was also the best player on the pitch in the 2-0 defeat to Ireland in Dublin. |
