TOS 2.6 screenshots

In low resolution, icons and text are quite large. This is useful if a TV is used instead of a monitor. Adjust windows border colors with the X-Control panel accessory. Notice the addition icons you can now define, TOS 2 includes several and more can be added in the ICONS.RSC file.

This is Medium resolution, you get double width but fewer colors, it uses the same amount of screen memory as low res.

The ROM-based OS loads with minimum use of available RAM, however the accessories that install at boot-up will be RAM-resident

This system has 2Mb RAM (2048K) installed.

Looking in the Desktop Configuration dialog box shows what memory is left once I got it up and running for these screenshots. You can re-configure the new 'keyboard shortcuts' in this dialog box.

There's about 1.8 Mb remaining with MDISK and XCONTROL accessories installed, still enough for most work. In 1991, programs rarely exceeded 1Mb in size.

In todays's technology, Microsoft Windows would eat the entire 2Mb during boot-up. Using this old system again reminds me of how much Windows really is not as original as it seems, almost every feature is similar.

In this high-res clip, notice the new SEARCH feature added.

select which source drive to search through then click the menu item to get the dialog box, wildcards are supported.

This 1040STE had it's OS replaced with TOS 2.6, the socketed ROMs are easily switched. But remember to adjust the jumpers for it to work.
