There's an old saying... "you get what you pay for." Never has
an adage been truer than in the case of the book called: "The Man
With The Curly Beard".

This book is painful to read... not for me, but in the way that
I feel "the writer's pain." G. Fred White must have invested
hundreds of hours into this book. I remember having to translate
a page of foreign text the hard way, by mercilessly plugging away,
forcing myself to weare out my finger tips searching through English
to Chinese dictionaries. Talk about a lot of hard work!

But some people have a nact for translation and G. Fred White must be one of these rare souls because the words flow beautifully and the imagery is masterfully created with his skillful use of words.

If you enjoy Aesops Fables or the stories of Hans Christian Anderson you will be equally enamored with this exquisite work by G. Fred White.

This is not just a book on the styling of facial hair as the title would have
us believe. It is the most compelling retelling of one of the most famous and loved Tang Dynasty fables that I've ever read. You, as the reader, are litterally transported back into time into ancient China. During a time when warlords ruled.

Some versions of fables are abbreviated... others are nearly hopelessly mangled by unskilled translators... but others, like this one, are capable of transporting the reader into a special world - where immersion is sweet and enjoyable - and the story becomes an important part of the reader's psyche and mindset. And the story stays with the reader long after the last page has been read.

G. Fred White not only has translated an important Chinese fable and made it easily accessible to English-speaking audiences but he leaves the cutomer satissfied by including information that was known by earlier generations of Chinese readers but are simply not part of the general Western knowledge base.

The only downside of this book lies in the production or
manufacturing side of it. Compared to many of the slick and
professionally published books that are out there (created by
mega-jumbo publishing companies), the "The Man With the Curly Beard" book
is a "small press" type publication.

If you're ready to devote a few hours of your time to read,
this book will take you into a whole new world. You'll come face to face with "Success Secrets" and aspects of "personal achievement" that have stood the test of time and are just as relevant today as they were 2,000 or more years ago.

This book will break you free from limiting thought and show
you what incredible things can happen to those who are flexible
enough and willing to explore new and unknown territories.

If you had to go out and learn Chinese you would spend half a lifetime or more before you could take the original Chinese version of this timeless fable, and even then an unrefined translation might not be half as rewarding to read as this outstanding version penned by G. Fred White.

You'd easily pay hundreds of times more if you had to
learn the stuff that's needed to make your own translation of
this fable. And I'm glad someone finally had the strength,
determination, intestinal fortitude and talent to put together
the most touching and powerful English version of the Tang Dynasty
Classic: "The Man With The Red Beard" -for all English speaking lovers
of fine stories - that I've ever reviewed.

Ben Franklin said, "If a man empties his purse into his head,
no one can take it away from him. An investment of
knowledge always pays the best interest."

This book - my friends - is one helluva great read and you'll find it to be both time and money well spent. Devour the information, contained between the book's covers, into your mind and you're not likely to go hungry again.
