Charles Benner was my maternal grandfather. He lived most of his life in Phillipsburg, NJ -- with his wife Kathryn Belle Petty Benner, who is buried there. They had three children -- Owenietta (Orth), Lottie Lydia (Adams), and James Petty Benner. The latter lived in Phillipsburg and Stewartsville NJ and had a son named Charles, last heard of by me as living in Alaska.
Charles Benner's mother's maiden name was Kitzelman, a daughter of Lemuel Kitzelman (1797- ? ) and Hannah Shenaugh (sp.?) (1805- ? ). Hannah was the daughter of William and Williana Shenaugh who farmed along the Delaware River near Washington's Crossing.
My grandfather Benner and I were very close during my childhood and adolescent years; and I spent many a summer week at their home walking the streets and environs of Phillipsburg.
