11:00 AM Just had breakfast (bun, cheese & tea) at the hotel. Spoke with older German couple about their stay, the economy, and the Egyptian culture.
Earlier this morning, I went to the pharmacy to find some shaving cream and shampoo. Ended up buying some spices. I think I got a good price (LE60). <the saffon alone is probably worth a couple of hundred bucks>
I'm sitting in the cafe & I think I'm done with the tourist stuff. I will meet Neil and Sinae here at 12:30 and we will have lunch. I think that I need to meet the Australian couple later at my hotel cafe, for the trip to Luxor temple.
*** 5:33 PM I have just toured the mummification museum. Not much there but OK. This is probably equivalent to a Clifton Hill sideshow, considering the other amazing things here. Perhaps that's unfair as it was quite interesting and educational.
Earlier at Amoun cafe, I had lunch with Sinae. Turns out that Neil has gotten ill. I had shish-tawok and she had a tuna sandwich. Very nice girl and we talked about her life in Israel as a volunteer in a kibbutz.
After lunch she jumped in the internet booth besides the cafe and I sat with the restaurant touts to talk and to help them bring in customers. I spoke to one about dating here.
He said it was very difficult to court as the attitude is that if you go out with someone, then your intention is to make her your girlfriend (aka sleep with her). You must have chaperones to out on dates.
I tried to tell him how dating worked in Canada and that going out with someone did not mean guaranteed sex or even a kiss. He found that hard to believe.
I am now sitting at "Anubis" waiting for the sun to set. I will wait for a falucca to cross the reflection line--it should be a beautiful shot.
It's extremely hot today and people have said it's like 40 degrees (C). Best thing to do is chill and check the sites at night. After the sun sets, I'm going over to Luxor Temple and find a site there to watch it (the sunset) or perhaps stay here at Anubis. |
