Right now it's Monday, April 10 @9:45 local (That's 2:45 AM in Toronto) and I am now on the east bank of the Nile. After a 12 hour train ride (which was surprisingly comfortable) I reached Luxor and have forfeited my trip to Aswan (another 4 hours from here). I figure that it would better to spend some 3 days here then try to fit both in the same amount of time.
Last night, I checked in to a crappy hotel, because I was too tired to look for a place. Then I went to this "English Pub"and ran into a bunch of Egyptologist from Birmingham University. Had a few pints, and went to a nightclub. Good time, beer is okay. Stella Local which is not to be confused with Stella Artois back home, but it actually tastes like beer.
Today, I'm checking into a new hotel, with a balcony overlooking the Nile, and the Luxor Temple. Not the greatest place, but the balcony view is amazing. I am now on the hunt for a greasy spoon to go get some breakfast (they're all greasy spoons here...ha ha). I don't get hassled much by the locals, as I tell them I'm Egyptian and they leave me alone...so it's all good. The other tourist, especially those of the fair skinned variety, are hounded like crazy...and I just laugh at them. I've helped a few people from getting scammed for taxis..cuz I'm such a good samaritan.
Heard you guys had a nice weekend...it's just too hot over here, but no humidity...and at night the desert breeze is filled with a slightly salty taste but yet is very cool and refreshing. Kind of like being at the beach...you know that beach smell? And it can get cool enough that you need a windbreaker.
Well I'm off to eat something, and check into my new hotel, and then I'm gonna be a tourist.
Tomorrow is the west bank...Valley of the Kings/Queens and assorted tombs.
Have a great day at work!!!
