Luxor
a 10-12 hour train ride from Cairo.  My original plan was to continue another 3-4 hours to Aswan, but I passed to maximize my stay in Luxor.  Valley of the Kings/Queens, and the spectacular Karnak and Luxor Temples.
Hypostyle Hall

This hall of columns (familiar to James Bond fans, although I think some of the shots were also at Ramasseum) is great place to play hide and seek.
I had the choice of either an overnight train or  the day train.  I took the day train, thinking that it would be good to see some sights along the way, also it was safer, as I heard that there were incidents of shots being fired at the night train.  Usually at the first/second class cars where tourists tended to travel.  Along the way a rock was thrown at one of the windows in my car, and luckily it was a double paned window.  Anyways, it made for a cool photo.
Karnak Temple
a sprawling complex spanning several dynasties, with each pharoah building successive pylons (walls) and monuments, this place was awesome.  The avenue of sphinxes extended 2km down to Luxor temple (those photos are coming soon)
"Ramses, Beloved by Amun Ra"
Ramesseum
a temple built by Ramses to showcase his strength as a great warrior.  Statues of Ramses lay in ruins.  On one huge wall are heiroglyphics of Ramses and the hundreds of people who were killed or enslaved.  I wish that shot had turned out.
This is me crossing the Nile to get to the west bank.  This is the ferry that the locals use.
Valley of the Kings Photos...COMING SOON
