(l-r) Me, Mike, Bob, Lorra, Marcy, and (f) Andy.  (Lorra's friends from Cairo, Mike and Andy, on vacation from Qatar).
Dahab
a funky little beach town on the southeast coast of the Sinaii Peninsuala.  Overlooking the Gulf of Aqaba, this place is filled with great open air restaurants and one of the best diving locations in the world.  I could barely snorkel.

A great 3 day escape from all the work of sightseeing.   I took a 40 minute plane ride here from Luxor, which saved me a 12-24 hour journey by bus.
Lorra, Me, and a cat
Lorra (and some of her friends) came to meet me from Cairo.  The cat's from Dahab.
The rockin' main strip of Dahab
Mt Sinaii (peak: around 2300m)
From Dahab it's a couple of hours to St Katherine's monastery, where you begin the 3-4 hour ascent up this famous mountain.  We start the climb at about 1 AM, and reach the peak, just before 5.  (Lots of smoke breaks).  Mike and Andy join me, and we climb, and climb.  Andy thought the climb was pretty shitty, but the view was worth it.
Enjoying their view of the sunrise from the top.
The other side of the mountain
Snacks at the top.  McDonalds?  Nope!!!
After seeing the sunrise we crashed out on our rented blankets (hey, we were up all night!!!), we woke up and found most of the people had left.  We had about 2 hours to descend, and yes we made it with time to spare.  I used all my film on the mountain top and didn't get a shot of the burning bush located in St Katherine's monastery.

This is a shot of Andy and Mike walking down the
steps of repentance, which is not the way we walked up.  This would have been brutal to walk up, but imagine how it was for  the guy who laid the steps down as an act of repentance for his sins.  Geez, he must have been pretty bad.
