Canada Royal Visit FDCs
created by Glenn A.
Estus
In 1939 the King and Queen of English visited
North America from May 17 through June 17. During that time they
traveled to Canada, the
United States and Newfoundland, which was then not yet part of Canada.
Even though the Royal Couple didn't arrive in
Canada until May 17, 1939 due to conditions in the North Atlantic, a
set of 3 postage stamps were issued on May 15, 1939. The next few
pages show various cachets used on first day covers.

The cachets shown on this page are
thermographed cachets. Thermography is a process of heat drying the
design into a raised design. One of the most prolific cachetmakers of
the 1930s and 1940s was Crosby. His cachets consisted of thermography
and small real photos.
