The people and its story

In the beginning, there was the sea and a welcoming cove ready for fishing. So the first community set up inhere and the King D.Dinis awarded it the first charter in 1308. But it didn't last for long. The community was set upon dependence of Santa Clara monastery, in Vila do Conde, and felt then as an unfortunate stepdaughter; later on, in1514, it was set free again through the charter awarded by the King D.Manuel. Then the community took over its very own personality and improved for the better.

 An increasing embellishment ever since now, allows us to appreciate architectonic work pieces in different materials according to the purposes. The granite is the stone that makes homes, churches, palaces and aqueducts look so solid and noble; but tiles, stuccoes, golden carvings, forged iron, those are the details that give the stone all the refinement of work of art.
